  • Crochet hook H8/5.00mm
  • Yarn needle

DIRECTIONS:

*Each cactus is worked as a continuous piece. Use a stitch marker to mark the beginning of each row.

Cactus 1
Ch 4, sl st into first ch to create ring.
Row 1: Ch 1. Work 8 sc into center of ring.
Row 2: Starting with the first st of previous row, 2 sc into each st.
Row 3: *Sc, 2 sc in next st. Repeat from * to complete round.
Row 4: *Sc in the next 2 sc, 2 sc in next st. Repeat from * to complete round.
Row 5: *Sc in the next 3 sc, 2 sc in next st. Repeat from * to complete round.
Row 6-14: Sc in each st around.
Row 15: *Sc in the next 3 sc, sc2tog in next st. Repeat from * to complete round.
Row 16: *Sc in the next 2 sc, sc2tog in next st. Repeat from * to complete round.
Row 17: *Sc in the next sc, sc2tog in next st. Repeat from * to complete round.
Stuff the piece with fiberfill.
Row 18: Sc2tog around.
Cut a long tail of yarn. Wrap the yarn through each stitch and pull tight to close the piece.

Attachment to Cactus 1
Ch 4, sl st into first ch to create ring.
Row 1: Ch 1. Work 8 sc into center of ring.
Row 2: Starting with the first st of previous row, 2 sc into each st.
Row 3: *Sc, 2 sc in next st. Repeat from * to complete round.
Row 4-7: Sc in each st around.
Row 8: *Sc in the next sc, sc2tog in next st. Repeat from * to complete round.
Stuff the piece with fiberfill.
Row 9: Sc2tog around.
Cut a long tail of yarn. Wrap the yarn through each stitch and pull tight to close the piece. Sew the attachment to the upper side of the main piece.

Cactus 2
Ch 4, sl st into first ch to create ring.
Row 1: Ch 1. Work 8 sc into center of ring.
Row 2: Starting with the first st of previous row, 2 sc into each st.
Row 3: *Sc, 2 sc in next st. Repeat from * to complete round.
Row 4-23: Sc in each st around.
Row 24: *Sc in the next sc, sc2tog in next st. Repeat from * to complete round.
Stuff the piece with fiberfill.
Row 25: Sc2tog around.
Cut a long tail of yarn. Wrap the yarn through each stitch and pull tight to close the piece.
Cut several small pieces of white yarn. Thread the yarn through holes in the crocheted piece, in random spots, and knot them in place. Trim pieces to a 1/4".

Cactus 3
Ch 21.
Piece is worked in back loops only.
Row 1: Sc in second ch from hook and in each ch to end of row.
Row 2-32: Ch 2, sc in each st across.
Tie off leaving a long tail for sewing. Sew the long ends together to create a tube shape.
On one end of the piece, wrap a length of yarn through each stitch and pull tight to cinch the end closed. Stuff the piece with fiberfill, then repeat to cinch the bottom closed.

Base
(Make one for each cactus.)
Ch 4, sl st into first ch to create ring.
Row 1: Ch 1. Work 8 sc into center of ring. Ch 1.
Row 2: *(Sc, ch 1, sc) into next st, sc in next st. Repeat from * around. Sl st into ch 1.
Row 3: *(Sc, ch 1, sc) into next st, sc in next 2 sts. Repeat from * around. Sl st into ch 1.
Row 4: *(Sc, ch 1, sc) into next st, sc in next 3 sts. Repeat from * around. Sl st into ch 1.
Row 5: *(Sc, ch 1, sc) into next st, sc in next 4 sts. Repeat from * around. Sl st into ch 1.
Row 6: *(Sc, ch 1, sc) into next st, sc in next 5 sts. Repeat from * around. Sl st into ch 1.

Flower
Ch 4, sl st into first ch to create ring.
Row 1: (Ch 2, puff st, ch 2, sl st) into ring 5 times.
To create puff stitch: *yo, insert hook into ring, draw up loop, yo, draw through 2 loops, repeat from * twice more, yo, draw through all loops on hook.
Cut two lengths of white yarn. Thread through the center of the flower and knot in place. Trim the yarn to 1/2" in length.
Paint each side of the wood planter with a different paint color. Several coats may be required. Allow to dry.
Cut pieces of cardboard in 1 ½” squares. Stack the cardboard pieces on top of each other, hot glueing them in place. Stack them until they are nearly to the top of the wood planter.
Glue the base of the stack to the bottom of the planter.
Glue the crocheted base piece to the top of the stack of cardboard.
Glue the cactus piece to the base piece to secure it in the wood planter.

Flower

Row 1: (Ch 2, puff st, ch 2, sl st) into ring 5 times.
To create puff stitch: *yo, insert hook into ring, draw up loop, yo, draw through 2 loops, repeat from * twice more, yo, draw through all loops on hook.
Cut two lengths of white yarn. Thread through the center of the flower and knot in place. Trim the yarn to 1/2" in length.
Paint each side of the wood planter with a different paint color. Several coats may be required. Allow to dry.
Cut pieces of cardboard in 1 ½” squares. Stack the cardboard pieces on top of each other, hot glueing them in place. Stack them until they are nearly to the top of the wood planter.
Glue the base of the stack to the bottom of the planter.
Glue the crocheted base piece to the top of the stack of cardboard.
Glue the cactus piece to the base piece to secure it in the wood planter.
