Martha Stewart Crafts Embossing Punch Monarch Butterfly is rated 2.2 out of 5 by 9.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Awful punch - Don't buy! I was super excited to get this cool butterfly punch until I tired to use it - I bought one that would not punch all the way through, then returned it for another. The second one only works if I use tremendous pressure, which the punch handle is not designed for (you can tell you are supposed to be able to use it with a thumb and a couple of fingers based on the size and design of the handle) and I still have to rip the mostly complete butterfly from the paper. I have lots of other similar size punches that cut easily and cleanly. This punch looks as though the design is flawed from the very start. Very disappointed! Don't waste your money!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very difficult to use I bought this last week as part of a boxed set. It is very hard to use and no matter how much pressure I exert it does not cut cleanly. The rest of the kit works well and was great value since I got it in a sale, but this one item is of no value since it doesn't work properly. If I had bought it as a single item I would return it.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not Martha Stewart's usual great quality I have had this punch a couple of years now. As other reviews have stated, it is difficult to obtain a cleanly cut butterfly and yes, it does require a lot of pressure. I happen to have very strong hands, so when using it, I hold it in the air for the first squeeze, then invert it so I can mash down on it on a table. When I feel that final quarter inch give way, I know I can expect to remove the butterfly from the surrounding paper with 2 gentle and careful rips. The design of the actual butterfly is what makes me return to this punch, but progress is slow. Each butterfly requires a good 10-15 seconds from the time I insert the paper (or cardstock -- and it makes no difference which I use), position the paper, hand-squeeze the punch to lock the paper's position (and to avoid wasting paper), then, without releasing the pressure, place the punch on my table so I can literally lean on it. The process is beyond anyone with arthritis, wrist injuries, or any hand/wrist issues. Even if one didn't care about wasting paper and left the punch on a table, sliding paper through it with each additional punch, one MUST still lean on it as even my healthy pianist's hands aren't enough after the first 20 attempts. I bought the punch as it was cheaper than many. All but one of Martha's larger punches that I own work fine, as do many of her punches that are this size. "Embossing" seems to be the problem; this is not a product I'd ever use to emboss. Coincidentally, the large punch with similar difficulties is also touted as an embossing punch. The bottom line is that there are many other manufacturers producing some fine-looking butterflies that are punched from both paper and cardstock far more easily.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Very Difficult to Punch!! I agree with the others! I am not a weak person and it takes a LOT of pressure to use this punch and it STILL does not come out cleanly! However it is cute, but Stampin Up has a couple of very nice EK butterfly punches, as well as the EK punches you can find in-store.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Butterfly Punch I have two of these punches and neither of them work properly. Both work the same so I know its not a isolated issue. It takes a lot of pressure to get the butterfly punched, it doesn't punch clean and has to be snipped from the paper with scissors on the sides. I have messaged the company several times but have never gotten anything but an auto response. I like my other Martha Stewart punches but this one sure is a looser.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Give Martha another chance! I think the best quality punches available are Stampin' Up punches (I sell SU), BUT I have scores of Martha Stewart punches, too. I have had good luck with my MS punches. Here are some hints: 1) I have found that some punches work better if the punch is held vertically with the whale handles held in the palm of your hand. Squeeze firmly. The punched pattern will come out cleanly. 2) For punch around the page sets, I have found that you must cut your paper a tad short of the suggested dimensions for the pattern to "fit" perfectly. 3) For her border punches, I always position the back of the punch closest to me, i.e. the paper would be inserted toward you. Make sure that the paper is tucked up against the back ledge of the punch.

Rated 0 out of 5 by from AWFUL! I have found all the MS punches to be of poor quality. The EK Brand & Fiskars are much better quality. I purchased this one (Monarch Butterfly) and regretted it from the time I took it out of the package. I will not buy another Martha Stewart punch. They are all awfull!!!!
