Misty Sands Afghan
Finished afghan measures 44" wide and 65" long (not including fringe).
SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
Yarn: Alpaca Dance by Premier Yarns
- Custard – 3 balls (A)
- Soft White – 3 balls (B)
- Silver Fog – 3 balls (C)
Crochet Hook: Size I-9 (5.5mm) or size to obtain gauge
10 sts = 4¼"; 11 rows = 4" in patt. Use any size hook necessary to obtain the specified gauge.
beg – beginning; ch – chain; dc – double crochet; lp(s) – loop(s); mm – millimeter; patt – pattern; rep – repeat; RS – right side; sc – single crochet; sl st – slip stitch; sp(s) – space(s); st(s) – stitch(es); WS – wrong side; yo – yarn over; * – repeat instructions after asterisk as specified.
FPdc (front-post double crochet): Yo, insert hook from front to back to front around post of indicated st, draw up a lp (3 lps on hook), [yo and draw through 2 lps on hook] 2 times.
Esc (extended single crochet): Insert hook in specified st, yo and draw up a lp, yo and pull through 1 lp on hook, yo and pull through both lps on hook.
When joining or fastening off, leave a 7" end to incorporate into fringe. No ends to weave in!
AFGHAN: Beg at long side edge with A, ch 155.
Row 1 (RS): Dc in 4th ch from hook (turning ch counts as a dc) and each ch across; fasten off – 153 dc.
Row 2 (RS): With RS facing, join B with a sc in first st, * FPdc in next st, sc in next st; rep from * across; turn.
Row 3 (WS): Ch 1, esc in first st, * ch 2, skip next st, esc in next st; rep from * across; fasten off.
Row 4 (RS): With RS facing, join C with sc in first st, working behind ch-2 sp, * dc in next skipped st from previous row, sc in next esc; rep from * across; turn
Row 5 (WS): Ch 1, sc in first st, working in next st and ch2 sp of Row 3 at same time, * sc in next dc and ch-2 sp, sc in next sc; rep from * across; fasten off.
Row 6 (RS): With RS facing, join A with sl st in first st, ch 3, (counts as dc), dc in each st across; fasten off.
Rows 7-121: Rep Rows 2-6.
Fringe: Cut 11" yarn lengths of each color. With RS facing, place a fringe over post of last st of every other row along side edges as follows: Holding 6 strands of same color together, fold yarn in half to make a lp, insert hook from back to front around post of st and pull lp through, include any yarn tails from joins or fasten offs, wrap ends over hook and pull through lp, tighten securely. Trim ends after all fringes are attached.
