SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • 1/2 yd each of six different printed quilt cotton
  • 1 yd solid quilt cotton for corners and triangles
  • 2-1/2 yds coordinating solid quilt cotton for sashing and borders
  • 1/2 yd quilt cotton for binding
  • 4-1/2 yds quilt cotton for backing
  • Twin size batting
  • Rotary cutter, ruler & mat
  • Basic sewing supplies
  • Iron & pressing surface
  • Sewing machine
  • Quilt size 62-1/2" x 75-1/2"

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Use 1/4" seam throughout. Press.
  2. To print the diagram, click on the "Download Project PDF" button (above).
  3. From prints, cut thirty-two 8-1/2" x 8-1/2" squares.
  4. From 1 yd solid cotton, cut 4 squares 16-1/2" x 16-1/2". Cut diagonally 2 times (see diagram A). When cut, there will be 14 triangles plus 2 extra. For corners, cut 2 squares 7-1/2" x 7-1/2". Cut diagonally one time to make 4 corner triangles.
  5. From 2-1/2 yd piece, cut 5 strips 2-1/2" x LOF. Piece together where needed to cut sashing strips:
  6. One 2-1/2" x 84"
  7. Two 2-1/2" x 74"
  8. Two 2-1/2" x 56"
  9. Two 2-1/2" x 36"
  10. Two 2-1/2" x 16"
  11. Two 3-3/4" x 69" pieces for border
  12. Two 3-3/4" x 62-1/2" pieces for border
  13. From remaining fabric, cut forty 2-1/2" x 8-1/2" pieces for sides of squares.
  14. Sew 2-1/2" x 8-1/2" sashing strips to squares as shown in diagram B.
  15. Center and sew triangles as shown in diagram C. They will be oversized to allow ‘float’ for squaring up when all pieces are sewn together.
  16. Sew long sashing strips as shown in diagram D.
  17. Sew rows together being careful to line up sashing strips.
  18. Center triangles and sew on to the corners.
  19. Square up being sure to leave 1/4" from where sashing meets. Diagram E.
  20. Sew border onto quilt top.
  21. Sandwich the backing, batting and quilt top together and quilt as desired.
  22. Trim and sew on binding.

  13. From remaining fabric, cut forty 2-1/2" x 8-1/2" pieces for sides of squares.
  14. Sew 2-1/2" x 8-1/2" sashing strips to squares as shown in diagram B.
  15. Center and sew triangles as shown in diagram C. They will be oversized to allow ‘float’ for squaring up when all pieces are sewn together.
