My husband bought this lamp as a present. Even though he bought it on sale, it was way too much money for the product. The plastic magnifier is a total waste even if you stand with your stitching directly under the magnifier. Plastic does not magnify! The lamp is too short to sit by my chair as the heat becomes too great since the light is too close to my body. I haven't used the clip as it seems it would be too top heavy to support it. All I wanted was a small desk type lamp - not this monster.
I am using it and enjoying it! The lamp is not easy to move down closer to work but quite honestly, I have it higher and it lights up a larger area! LOVE THIS!! Only downside is the bolt that attaches the lamp or extension to the base is very tricky to get lined up plumb. Just watch that and don't strip the treads. Great lamp so far!
I have had this lamp, and many other ottlites, for 5 years. I would strongly recommend.
Bought this lamp for my 94 yo aunt with poor vision. The Magnifying glass has broken off - any chance of getting that arm to replace broken one? She loves the light and in need of the glass. Thank you. I have one of my own and love it - even paying full price for it...
I bought this lamp for sewing. I have poor lighting in my house and was attracted to the HD to help me with my astigmatism. The light is wonderful. The design, not so much. I don't like the idea that the magnifying glass is plastic. Plastic scratches so easy and seems to grab finger prints more than glass. I stripped the threads on the lamp within a few weeks to a month adjusting it from working on my machine to working at a table. I've never used the clip. The only way I would recommend this lamp is if it was less expensive, had a glass magnifing glass, and the tightening/loosening screw for the lamp was designed better. I'm not a person that is rough on products. I was extra careful with the screw when I saw how it worked and I
I bought the Lamp because I needed better lighting to work on my cross stitch and quilting projects...I have mixed feelings on this lamp...As far as the lighting and the clip that holds the patterns, they are great....The magnifying glass however, does you no good with stitching...The magnifying glass positioning is extremely limited and doesn't reach where it is needed...Also, if you try to use the clip and the magnifying glass at the same time, the lamp gets top heavy and falls over easily...Overall, I like the lamp for the clip and lighting, but the magnifier is useless...Don't pay full price, I paid 1/2 and I still feel like I paid too much...If everything worked like it is supposed too, it would be a great lamp.
i have struggled with how to deal with this lamp combo for a while and have yet to come up with a solution. i should have returned it but i do like the light. unless you are seated on a stool that is bar height the magnifier is useless. i tried turning the accessories upside down but the weight was too much for the goose neck to handle. i can't believe that this was designed by someone who actually stitches. i suggrest you pick a different ott.
This light is fabulous! Great lighting helps so much when eyes get older. :) The handy magnifier is very helpful. I bought this intending to use in my sewing/craft room, but it has not left the living room yet. I have another table top lamp with the magnifier and use it all the time for beading and scrap booking.
