Description

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Deborah Norville® Everyday Yarns:
    2 skeins Soft Worsted Prints, Oak Moss (MC)
    Soft Worsted Solids, 1 skein each: Pine Green (A), Snow White (B) Baby Yellow (C), Chocolate (D)
  • Size G-6 crochet hook or size to obtain gauge
  • Yarn needle
  • Small amount of stuffing
  • 2 buttons, 3/4" for eyes
  • 12"x16" pillow form
Gauge: 13 sts and 10 rows = 4" in Floret st

Special Stitches:
fpdc = front post double crochet: Yarn over, insert hook from front to back to front around post of st,
yarn over and draw up a loop, [Yarn over and pull through 2 loops on hook] twice.

Floret Stitch: (Multiple of 2 sts + 1)
Row 1 RS): Dc in 4th ch from hook & each ch across, turn.
Row 2: Ch 1, sk 1st st, * dc in next st, sl st in next st; rep from * across, turn.
Row 3: Ch 3, counts as dc throughout, dc in each st across, ending with dc in ch 1, turn.
Rep Rows 2 and 3 for pattern. Regular instruction lists begin with 'Directions' in bold, 'Notes' are italicized and each line is double spaced by 2
tags.

DIRECTIONS:

PILLOW FRONT/BACK: Make 2.
Beg at bottom edge of pillow with MC, ch 41.
Row 1 (RS): Work Row 1 of Floret st – 39 dc.
Rows 2-16: Work in Floret st, ending with Row 2; fasten off MC.
Row 17: Join A with a sl st in first st, ch 1, sc in each st across, turn.
Row 18: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn.
Row 19: Ch 1, sc in each of the first 3 sc, * fpdc around sc 2 rows below, sc in each of next 3 sc; rep from * across, turn.
Row 20: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn.
Row 21: Ch 1, sc in each of first 3 sc, * fpdc around dc 2 rows below, sc in each of next 3 sc; rep from * across, turn.
Rows 22-33: Rep Rows 20 & 21 six times; fasten off A.
Rows 34-43: Join MC; work in Floret st beg with Row 2; fasten off.

EYE: Make 2.
With A, ch 2.
Rnd 1: 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Do not join rnds—mark last st of each rnd with a stitch marker or scrap piece of yarn and move marker up with each finished rnd.
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each sc around – 12 sc.
Rnd 3: * Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc; rep from * around; sl st in next st; fasten off A – 18 sc.
Rnd 4: Join B with a sl st in any sc, ch 3, dc in same st as joining, 2 dc in each rem sc around, join – 36 dc.
Rnd 5: Ch 1, sc in same st as joining and in each rem dc around; fasten off.
Sew a button to center of eye and sew eye to front of pillow. Repeat with other eye

BEAK: Beg at bottom edge, with C, ch 2.
Row 1: 3 sc in 2nd ch from hook, turn.
Row 2: Ch 1, sc in first sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in last sc, turn – 4 sc.
Row 3: Ch 1, sc in each sc across, turn.
Row 4: Ch 1, sc in next sc, 2 sc in each of next 2 sc, sc in last sc, turn – 6 sc.
Row 5: Ch 1, sc in each of next 2 sc, 2 sc in each of next 2 sc, sc in each of last 2 sc, turn – 8 sc.
Rows 6-7: Ch 1, sc in each sc across, turn.
Row 8: Ch 1, sc in each of next 3 sc, 2 sc in each of next 2 sc, sc in each of last 3 sc, turn – 10 sc.
Row 9: Ch 1, sc in each sc across, then continue to sc around sides of beak, working 3 sc in each corner; fasten off.
Stuff lightly; sew in Beak place. Weave in ends. With RS facing, sew front and back tog around three sides.
Turn RS out and insert pillow form. Invisibly sew rem side closed.

HEAD FEATHERS: Make 2 each in MC, A & D: Ch 21.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and each across, turn – 20 sc.
Row 2: Ch 1, sc in each sc across; fasten off.
Sew short sides of each piece tog.
Sew 1 of each color to top corners of pillow.

LARGE WING: Make 2.
With A, ch 31.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and each across, turn – 30 sc.
Row 2: Ch 3, dc in each sc across, turn.
Row 3: Ch 1, sc in each dc across; fasten off.

MEDIUM WING: Make 2.
With MC, ch 22.
Rows 1-3: Rep Rows 1-3 of Large Wing – 21 sts.

SMALL WING: Make 2.
With D, ch 16.
Rows 1-3: Rep Rows 1-3 of Large Wing – 15 sts.
Sew short sides of each wing tog.
Sew one of each color to each side of pillow.

Finished size 12"x16"
