SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • 1 skein Lily® Sugar ‘n Cream® Super Size: Contrast A, white
  • 1 skein Bernat® Handicrafter DeLux: Contrast B, purple
  • (1 ball each of A and B will make 2 Oysters)
  • Size U.S. G/6 crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge.
  • Stuffing
  • Yarn Needle
  • Scissors

DIRECTIONS:

GAUGE: 15 sc and 16 rows = 4"

Top Shell (make 1 each with A and B)
**Ch 16.
1st row: (RS). Working into horizontal ‘bump’ at back of chain, sl st in 2nd ch from hook. 1 sc in each of next 2 ch. 1 hdc in each of next 5 ch. 1 dc in each of last 7 ch. Turn. 15 sts.
2nd row: Ch 3 (does not count as st). Working into back loops only, 1 dc in each of first 7 dc. 1 hdc in each of next 5 hdc. 1 sc in each of next 2 sc. Sl st in last sl st. Turn.
3rd row: Ch 1. Working into back loops only, sl st in first sl st. 1 sc in each of next 2 sc. 1 hdc in each of next 5 hdc. 1 dc in each of last 7 dc. Turn.**
4th to 13th rows: Rep 2nd and 3rd rows 5 times more. Fasten off.

Join Top Shell pieces: Place WS of A and B pieces tog. Working through both thicknesses and with RS of A piece facing, join A with sl st in lower corner. Ch 1. Work sc evenly up side. 2 sc in corner. (Ch 3. 1 sc in side of next dc) 11 times across top edge. Ch 3. 2 sc in corner. Work sc evenly down side. 2 sc in corner. 9 sc across narrow lower edge. Join with sl st to first sc. Fasten off.

Lower Shell (make 1 each with A and B)
Work from ** to ** as given for Top Shell.
4th to 11th rows: Rep 2nd and 3rd rows 4 times more. Fasten off.

Join Lower Shell pieces: Place WS of A and B pieces tog. Working through both thicknesses and with RS of A piece facing, join A with sl st in lower corner. Ch 1. Work sc evenly up side. 2 sc in corner. (Ch 3. 1 sc in side of next dc) 9 times across top edge. Ch 3. 2 sc in corner. Work sc evenly down side. 2 sc in corner. 9 sc across narrow lower edge. Join with sl st to first sc. Fasten off.

Join Top and Lower Shells: 1st row: Place inside (B side) of pieces facing each other. Working through both thicknesses and with RS of Top Shell facing, join A with sl st in corner sc at narrow edge. Ch 1. Work 11 sc evenly to next corner. Turn.
2nd row: Ch 2 (does not count as st). 2 hdc in first sc. 1 hdc in next sc. 1 sc in each of next 7 sc. 1 hdc in next sc. 2 hdc in last sc. Fasten off.

PEARL
With A, ch 4.
1st rnd: 8 dc in 4th ch from hook. Join with sl st in top of ch 3.
2nd rnd: Ch 1. 1 sc in same sp as last sl st. Sc3tog. 1 sc in next dc. Sc3tog. Join with sl st to first sc. Fasten off leaving a long end. Draw end tightly through rem sts and leave in place to sew Pearl to Oyster.

FINISHING
Sew Pearl in position to inside of Lower Shell. Sew corners of Top Shell to sides of Lower Shell to create ‘arch’.
