SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Lion Brand® Wool-Ease® Thick & Quick®:
    • Cranberry 3 balls (A)
    • Taupe 3 balls (B)
    • Black 3 balls (C)
    • Grey Marble 1 ball (D)
    • Granite 1 ball (E)
    • Butterscotch 1 ball (F)
    • or colors of your choice
    • Lion Brand® stitch holders
    • Lion Brand® large-eyed blunt needle
    • Circular knitting needle size 13 (9 mm), 36" (91.5 cm) long
    • Scissors
    • Tape measure

      • SIZE:
      • About 48 x 60" (122 x 152.5 cm)

      • GAUGE:
      • 9 sts + 14 rows = about 4" (10 cm) in Seed stitch.
      • BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE.

      • PATTERN STITCH:
      • Seed Stitch (worked over an even number of sts)
      • Row 1: *K1, p1; rep from * to end of row.
      • Row 2: P the knit sts, and k the purl sts.
      • Rep Row 2 for Seed st.

      • NOTES:
      • The Poncho is worked in intarsia colorwork following a chart for color changes.
      • When working in intarsia, do not carry yarns across the WS of work, use a separate ball or bobbin for each section of color. Twist yarns on WS to prevent holes. Before beginning the Back of the Poncho, wind D and F into 2 separate balls each.
      • When following charts, work in Seed st and read RS rows from right to left and WS rows from left to right.
      • The fronts are worked from lower edge up, then joined to work the back.
      • A circular needle is used to accommodate the large number of sts. Work back and forth in rows on the circular needle, just as if working with straight needles.

      DIRECTIONS:

        • Right Front
        • With A, cast on 54 sts.
        • Row 1 (RS): With A, work in Seed st to end of row.
        • Continue in Seed st, changing color following chart until all 112 rows of Right Front have been completed.
        • Place sts on a st holder.

        • Left Front
        • With A, cast on 5 sts; with B, cast on 5 sts; with second ball of A, cast on 44 sts – you will have a total of 54 sts.
        • Row 1 (RS): Work in Seed st, changing color as follows: with A, work to last 10 sts, with B, work over next 5 sts, with A, work to end of row.
        • Continue in Seed st, changing color following chart until all 112 rows of Left Front have been completed.

        • Back
        • Row 1 (RS): From RS, work in Seed st changing color as follows: with D, work over first 36 sts of Left Front; with B, work over last 18 sts of Left Front; with B, work over first 18 sts of Right Front from holder; with a separate ball of D, work over next 26 sts; with C, work over last 10 sts – there will be 108 sts at the end of this row.
        • Continue in Seed st, changing color following chart until all 98 rows of Back have been completed.
        • Bind off, binding off each section with matching color.

        • FINISHING
        • Weave in ends.
