Lesson Plan: What you Learn

Lesson 1 : Fabric & Color
00:19:46

Meet your instructor, quilt designer Elizabeth Hartman. Then learn what kinds of fabrics work best in representational designs such as the deer and bear blocks you'll make in this video class. You'll also explore how solids, prints, color and value can help you achieve the look you want.

Lesson 2 : Cutting & Organization
00:23:08

Learn Elizabeth's tips for cutting fabric and keeping it organized during construction. Put those tips to use as you cut and organize materials for the darling Bjorn Bear quilt.

Lesson 3 : Bjorn Bear Block
00:24:56

Practice accurate, efficient piecing as you make the Bjorn Bear block. As you piece, you'll get confident sewing an accurate quarter-inch seam allowance. Elizabeth will also share tricks for sewing diagonal seams successfully.

Lesson 4 : Dwight the Deer Block
00:21:22

Apply the same straight seam and diagonal seam techniques from Lesson 3 to make a different, yet equally delightful block: Dwight the Deer. You'll use chain piecing to sew multiple blocks at one time while keeping your pieces organized for fuss-free sewing.

Lesson 5 : Appliqué Glasses
00:19:59

Find out how to add some personality to your deer or bear blocks with an adorable appliqué: a pair of glasses. Along the way, you'll learn easy techniques for making appliqués using fusible web and keeping your appliqué stitches even.

Lesson 6 : Finishing the Quilt Tops

Elizabeth will help you plan your quilt layouts for both the bear and deer blocks with or without a design wall. You'll also pick up tips for sewing sashing accurately before you develop a plan for quilting and finishing your too-cute quilt!
