Reviews
Patons Classic Wool DK Superwash Yarn is rated 4.428571428571429 out of 5 by 14.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from buyer beware Welsh Manor is knitting up beautifully but project is going to cost me twice as much as what I had budgeted for. The self striping colorways are only 1/2 the yardage of the solids yet sold at the same price. It would be helpful if the solids and stripes had individual pages online with weights/yardages in bold so others don't make my mistake. :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Self striping yardage is same as solid. Love it! Another review mentioned Welsh Manor and said the self striping colorways had only half the yardage of the solids. I bought some solids and self striping (Welsh Coast), and both types had 125 yards per ball, so I don't agree with that review. I would, however, buy an extra ball for your pattern to err on the side of caution. I have made a few pairs of socks using the Patons Basic sock pattern, womens size 7/8. The Pattern calls for 2 balls for this size, and for the larger Men's size. I found I needed just over 1 ball to complete 1 women's size 7/8 sock! Don't get caught short! The yarn itself is beautiful and knits up very nice. I have not tried running it through the washer and dryer yet. However, I usually knit socks with Patons Kroy Socks, which machine wash and dry great, so I expect no trouble with this yarn. Kroy knits a lovely, cozy, snug sock and is my favorite. This DK superwash makes a heavier sock, which I'll use for winter boots. I find the yarn a bit pricey for my budget, but I watch for sales and clearances to get a better value. And for a machine washable wool, it's worth clipping some coupons. I had a fire once and if not for natural fibers, I would have been badly burned. I stick to wools, cottons and natural fibers as much as I can.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great yarn I've used this yarn for many items and it always works up great. It has great stitch definition, wears well and is suitable for heavier lace knitting in northern climates where warmth is needed. One of the best qualities is how it wet blocks. It blocks like a dream and so many times adjustments for fit can be altered by blocking. Half the battle in sizing and appearance for sweaters and shawls is in the blocking and this yarn blocks beautifully; shawl points are crisp, curves are smooth, texture is well defined and it is so soft after washing.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from really like this yarn I've used quite a bit of this yarn in various colors for socks, hats, and mittens, etc., for myself and my family, and I like it a great deal. It's not merino, but like many super-wash wools, it softens when washed in the washer and dryer. It is warm, holds its shape and color. The price is excellent for super-wash. The colors are classic and very good for color work, although I do wish JoAnn's carried the Flagstone, which is a soft dove grey. I'm disappointed that my local store only carries a few colors now so that I have to order it online. Acrylic is just not warm enough-upstate New York requires wool.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from great Great colors. Fine enough to crochet and have a knitting look. Only thing is the amount that comes in one ball. It's only 50g per. I didn't pay attention to that and bought half of what I really needed.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good, average, sturdy yarn I bought this yarn to try out for a new pattern I found for socks. I usually use sock weight yarn in a washable wool with some nylon content (at a much higher price) for durability, but since I'm experimenting, thought I'd give this a try. So far, the stitch definition is lovely, due to the sturdy twist of this yarn. I agree with one reviewer who said that the yarn feels rough, but I've experienced other rough-feeling super wash yarns that softened right up in the wash, and I suspect this will do the same, as another reviewer wrote. My one problem with this yarn , and why I didn't give it 5 stars, is its tendency to split. Knitting carefully can mitigate this problem, but I've had to deal with it much more in the first three inches of these socks than I've had to in the last year of knitting.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great yarn at great price for washable wool We are making caps for military that must be washable wool...one skein of this makes one cap...so this works great, I have to adjust the pattern for the Skype weight but that's a simple addition of one increase round. Good price meant I could make more..
