   Amy Alan

Amy Alan began her love affair with sewing and crafting as a young girl. She graduated with a degree in Apparel Design from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana, and became a patternmaker for a show apparel company. From there she worked in alterations, and started her own business altering wedding gowns and sewing custom quilts. She now lives in Portland, Oregon where she runs a successful sewing blog and teaches classes both in-person and online.

Materials: What you Need

1 . Clear acrylic ruler with angled markings (for changing grain line to bias)
2 . Chalk marker 
3 . Fabric glue stick
4 . Quilter's template plastic
5 . Straight-stitch throat plate for sewing machine (optional)
6 . Tracing wheel and tracing paper for marking 
7 . Double-sided transparent tape
8 . Hand sewing needles and thread for basting (optional, for hand basting)
9 . Microtex sewing machine needles
10 . Pattern tracing paper (shown: Swedish tracing paper)
11 . Tracing wheel and tracing paper for marking
