SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Lion Brand® Wool-Ease® Thick & Quick®:
    • Cranberry, 3 balls (A)
    • Taupe, 3 balls (B)
    • Black, 3 balls (C)
    • Grey Marble, 2 balls (D)
    • Granite, 1 ball (E)
    • Butterscotch, 1 ball (F)
    • or colors of choice
    • Lion Brand® crochet hook size N-13 (9 mm)
    • Lion Brand® large-eyed blunt needle
    • Scissors
    • Tape measure

      • SIZE:
      • About 48 x 60" (122 x 152.5 cm)

      • GAUGE:
      • 8 hdc + 5 rows = about 4" (10 cm).
      • BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE.

      • NOTES:
      • Poncho fronts are worked from lower edge up, then joined to work the back.
      • Yarn colors are changed following a chart.
      • To print the chart, click on the "Download Project PDF" button (above).
      • When following chart, work RS rows from right to left and WS rows from left to right.
      • Do not carry unused color(s) across WS of work, use a separate ball or bobbin for each section of color.
      • Before you begin the back, wind F yarn into 2 separate balls.
      • To change yarn color, work last st of old color to last yarn over. Yarn over with new color and draw through all loops on hook to complete st. Proceed with new color. Fasten off old color.

      DIRECTIONS:

        • RIGHT FRONT
        • With A, ch 50.
        • Row 1 (RS): With A, hdc in 3rd ch from hook (2 skipped ch do not count as a st) and in each ch across – there will be 48 hdc.
        • Rows 2-4: With A, ch 2 (beg ch does not count as a st), turn, hdc in each st across.
        • Change to B in the last st of Row 4.
        • Continue in rows of hdc (same as Rows 2-4), changing color following chart (be careful to follow just the section marked for the Right Front) until all 40 rows of Right Front chart have been completed.
        • Fasten off.

        • LEFT FRONT
        • With A, ch 5; with B, ch 5; with A, ch 40 – you will have a total of 50 ch.
        • Row 1 (RS): With A, hdc in 3rd ch from hook (2 skipped ch do not count as a st) and in next 37 ch; with B, hdc in next 5 ch; with A, hdc in last 5 ch – 48 hdc at the end of this row.
        • Continue in rows of hdc, changing color following chart until all 40 rows of Left Front chart have been completed.
        • Change to D in last st of last row.

        • BACK
        • Row 1 (RS): With D, ch 2 (does not count as a st), turn, hdc in next 32 sts of Left Front; with B, hdc in next 16 sts of Left Front; working over last row of Right Front sts, with B, hdc in first 16 sts; with D, hdc in next 23 sts; with C, hdc in last 9 sts – there will be 96 hdc at the end of this row.
        • Continue in rows of hdc, changing color following chart until all 35 rows of Back have been completed.
        • Fasten off.

        • FINISHING:
        • Weave in ends.

        • ABBREVIATIONS:

        • hdc = half double crochet
