Rated 5 out of 5 by from looks like dupioni silk, but washable This fabric has a shiny side and then a side that looks like dupioni silk. It is washable, and comes out of the dryer (on low) without wrinkles. In the Joann store, this fabric is also called Saxaphone.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Scant on their measuring Ordered a 10 yard bolt and it measures 10 yard on the salvage end side of the yardage but on the fold edge of the yardage it is about 4" shy...a little skimpy there Joann! makes me appreciate's 37" yards a lot! However fabric is a nice texture and lovely drape and with the 50% sale and a free shipping offer was a good value.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Fabric, Terrible Color Choices Used fabric to make a "medieval" costume for a dinner, came out great - except that I couldn't get the greens, slate blue and grays I needed so I had to choose "non-historical" colors; the site has fewer colors than the store has! Great to sew on - I just wish you had the color selection you used to have available.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just a note. I just wanted to point out the thumbnail for the rose color is very misleading. It is much, much lighter- more of an icy rose. In fact, it is very close to what the other pink is shown to be.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Substitute for Shantung - Usually I don't see any reviews that compare this to actual Shantung silk, so I thought I'd put one in. I use this for costuming and have made the same costumes out of both this and real silk. Overall, this is amazing. It's so great, that it's actually easiest for me to list the key differences. If none of these differences are a concern for you, feel free to use this amazing, machine-washable substitute. * One-sided: The outside has a very convincing texture, sheen, and overall visual appearance. The inside is a smooth, shiny surface (which is incidentally very comfortable). If you need both sides to look like shantung, you'll need to double-layer it. * How it falls: shantung, like many silks, has a certain stiffness to it that isn't captured in this fabric which, not surprisingly, falls more like a polyester. This doesn't effect most outfits, but if your outfit or costume is designed to move a specific way with silk, this may not do the job for you. * Authenticity: Obviously, this is not real silk. It's great from 5 - 10 feet away but does not hold up to close scrutiny if the person knows what they are looking for. This is really an expectation thing. If you pretend it's silk, someone who knows silk will recognize it's not in a second. If you say it's a substitute, that same person will be amazed at how close it is. There you have it. It's a great fabric at a great price. Easy to work with and maintain. If those three items don't rule it out for you, go for it!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Ivory is not same as pictured The ivory shantung pictured here looks very much like the white pictured, but in reality it's not. Actually, the ivory is much more yellow/off-white and is not as close to white as it appears online. The fabric itself is lovely in texture and weight- I just wish they had a better shade of ivory- it's not a very pretty yellow in my opinion.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible fabric, okay price This fabric is awful. It has NONE of the good features of shantung: visible slubs; weight; and a bit of crisp hand while retaining nice draping qualities. It does however have ALL of the bad features of cheap polyester junk: it hangs terribly; has very poor, nearly invisible texture; and unravels like mad. I wouldn't recommend this atrocious fabric to anyone for any reason.
