SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

RED HEART® Boutique Irresistible™: 4 balls 7952 Enchanting

Susan Bates® Knitting Needles: 25mm [US 50]

Yarn needle

GAUGE: 3 sts = 4” [10 cm]; 4 rows = 4” [10 cm] in pattern stitch. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size needles to obtain the gauge.

DIRECTIONS:

One size fits most

Poncho measures 25” [63.5 cm] long x 34” [86 cm] circumference. Because of the loose nature of the stitch, Poncho will stretch to fit a variety of sizes.

NOTE

Poncho body is worked sideways from center of front around back to center of opposite front. Then  stitches are picked up along one side edge for neckband.

SPECIAL ABBREVIATIONS

Wrapped Stitch: Insert right needle as if to knit, wrap yarn around both needles, then in between needles and complete knit st as usual. This will create an elongated open stitch.

Lacey Bind Off: K2, *slip 2 worked sts back to left needle and k2tog through back loop, k1; repeat from *.

PONCHO BODY

Cast on 12 sts.

Row 1 (Right Side): Work Wrapped st across.

Row 2: Purl.

Repeat Rows 1-2 until piece measures 34”

[86 cm] from beginning, end with a Row 2

as last row worked.

Bind off.

FINISHING

Neckband

With right side facing, pick up and knit 14 sts evenly spaced along one side edge.

Work in Stockinette st for 4” [10 cm].

Bind off loosely using Lacey Bind Off, leaving a long tail.

Using long tail, sew side edges of Neckband and half of ends of Poncho together, leaving lower 8” [20.5 cm] unsewn.

Weave in ends.

ABBREVIATIONS

cm = centimeters; k = knit; mm = millimeters; p = purl; st(s) = stitch(es); * or ** = repeat whatever follows the * or ** as indicated.
