CUTTING: Label pieces.
From Block Panel cut: 12 vases, 8" square including blue border – Unit 1.
From Bird Floral cut: 2 strips 2-1/2"xWOF. From the strips cut twenty squares = Posts – Unit 2.
From Texture Teal cut: strips 2-1/2"xWOF. From the strips cut sixteen rectangles 8"x2-1/2" – Unit 3.
From Texture Green cut: 3 strips 2-1/2"xWOF. From the strips cut 15 rectangles 8"x2-1/2" – Unit 4.
From Butterfly Leaf cut: 2 strips 1-1/2"xWOF. From the strips cut 2 strips 40-1/2"x1-1/2"- Unit 5. 2 strips 1-1/2"xWOF.
From the strips cut 2 strips 33"x1-1/2" – Unit 6.
From Festive Floral cut: 2 strips 5-3/4"xLOF. From the strips cut two strips 42-1/2"x5-3/4" – Unit 7. 2 strips 5-3/4"xLOF.
From the strips cut 2 strips 43-1/2"x5-3/4" – Unit 8.

  1. Sew 4 columns of sashings and posts using 5 Unit 2 squares and 4 Unit 3 rectangles. Each column starts with a Unit 2 square alternating with a Unit 3 rectangle, continuing to end with a Unit 2 square.
  2. Sew 3 columns, alternating 4 Unit 1 squares and 5 Unit 4 rectangles. Start and end columns with Unit 4 rectangle.
  3. Sew together Step 1 and Step 2 columns; begin at left with Step 1 column; end at right with Step 1 column.
  4. Sew Unit 5 borders to the sides of Step 3 unit.
  5. Sew Unit 6 borders to the top and bottom of Step 4 unit.
  6. Sew Unit 7 borders to the sides of Step 5 unit.
  7. Sew Unit 8 borders to the top and bottom of Step 6 unit.
  8. Layer, quilt and bind.

DIRECTIONS:

CUTTING: Label pieces.
Striped Fabrics: Cupcake Stripe fabric strip Units 4, 6, 7 and 8 are cut 6-1/2" wide. Cut again at 45° angle. Open the fabric strip before cutting the angle or pieces will lean in opposite directions. Place ruler 45° mark on selvage edge of the strip for the 1st cut. Continue cutting strips at 3-1/8"intervals, following 45° angle. Trim strips to 5-1/4". Each strip will yield 8 pieces for a 5-1/2"x3-1/8" rectangle.
From Sprinkles White cut: 1 strip 3-1/8"xWOF. From the strip cut 13 squares – Unit 1.
From Sprinkles Chocolate cut: 2 strips 5-3/4"xWOF. From strips cut 13 squares; cross cut squares = 52 quarter square triangles – Unit 2. 4 strips 1-1/2"xWOF.
From the strips cut 2 strips 40-1/2"x1-1/2" and 2 strips 42-1/2"x1-1/2" – 1st Border – Unit 3.
From Green Cupcake Stripe cut: 2 strips 6-1/2"xWOF. Open the fabric strips. Starting from the left selvage edge, mark the 45° angle and cut 13 rectangles 5-1/4"x3-1/8" – Unit 4. 6 strips 2-1/4"xWOF – Binding – Unit 5.
From Blue Cupcake Stripe cut: 2 strips 6-1/2"xWOF. Open the fabric strips. Starting from the left edge, mark the 45°angle on the strips and cut 13 rectangles 5-1/4"x3-1/8" – Unit 6.
From Pink Cupcake Stripe cut: 2 strips 6-1/2"xWOF. Open the fabric strips. Starting from the right edge, mark the 45° angle on the strips and cut 13 rectangles 5-1/4"x3-1/8" – Unit 7.
From Yellow Cupcake Stripe cut: 2 strips 6-1/2"xWOF. Open the fabric strips. Starting from the right edge, mark the 45° angle on the strips and cut 13 rectangles 5-1/4"x3-1/8" – Unit 8.
From Cupcake Dots cut: 3 strips 8-1/2"xWOF. From the strips cut 12 squares – Unit 9. Thirteen 2-1/2" cupcake squares; 5 squares with a blue cupcake, 4 squares with a green cupcake and 4 squares with a pink cupcake – Unit 10.
From Packaged Cupcakes cut: 4 strips 5-1/2"xLOF. From strips cut 2 strips 42-1/2"x5-1/2" and 2 strips 52-1/2"x5-1/2" – Border– Unit 11.
From the fusible web cut: Thirteen 2-1/2" squares – Unit 12.

  1. Fuse the Unit 10 Cupcake Dots squares to the Unit 12 fusible web squares; follow manufacturer's instructions. Cut out the cupcakes and fuse them to the Unit 1 Sprinkles White squares; follow instructions for Step 2 through Step 7 to make thirteen "X" blocks.
  2. For each block, sew 1 Unit 4 and 1 Unit 6 rectangle to opposite sides of a Unit 1 square.
  3. Place a Unit 2 triangle on a Unit 7 rectangle, right sides together, matching top edges. Sew together on the long edge of the rectangle.
  4. Sew a 2nd Unit 2 triangle to the other long edge of the Step 3 rectangle.
  5. Repeat Steps 3 and Step 4 using a Unit 8 rectangle and 2 Unit 2 triangles.
  6. Sew the long edge of the Step 4 pieced unit to a long edge of the Step 2 pieced unit. Sew the Step 5 pieced unit to the other side of the Step 2 unit. "X" Block.
  7. Use the 8-1/2" template or the ruler to trim the blocks to 8-1/2" and to cut away the extra fabric at the corners.
  8. Referring to the quilt picture, sew the quilt together in rows, alternating Step 6 blocks and Unit 9 squares.
  9. Sew the Unit 11 border strips to the quilt top. Layer, bind and quilt.

  1. Make 48 half square triangle squares. Place two 4-1/2" squares right sides together. Each pair makes 2 squares. Draw line from corner to corner on the top square of each pair. On both sides of the line sew a seam 1/4"from the line. Cut the squares apart on the drawn line. Trim the squares to 4". Pair squares as follows:

    8 Overlap Leaf & 8 Floral Stamp
    14 Overlap Leaf & 14 Spaced Floral Vine
    4 Overlap Leaf & 4 Leaf Texture Brown
    4 Leaf Texture Brown & 4 Spaced Floral Vine
    12 Leaf Texture Brown & 12 Floral Stamp
    6 Leaf Texture Orange & 6 Spaced Floral Vine

  2. Sew 1 Unit 4 rectangle to the bottom of the Unit 1 square and 1 Unit 4 rectangle to the top of Unit 1 square.
  3. Sew 1 Unit 5 strip to the each of the 2 remaining sides of the Unit 1 square.
  4. Referring to the quilt picture, sew 12 half square triangle squares from Step 1 together to make a zigzag pattern strip. Repeat for 2nd strip. Sew the strips to opposite sides of the Step 3 piece.
  5. Sew together 12 half square triangle squares to make 3 hourglass blocks. Sew 3 hourglass blocks together to make a strip. Sew a Unit 13 square to the both ends of the strip. Repeat to make 2nd strip. Sew strips to the remaining sides of the Step 4 piece.
  6. Sew together rectangles to make 2 border strips. Sew 2 Spaced Floral Vine Unit 11 rectangles to opposite ends of Floral Stamp Unit 7 rectangle. Repeat to make 2nd strip. Sew strips to both hourglass sides of Step 5 piece.
  7. Sew together the strips for the remaining sides of the Step 5 piece. Sew 2 Overlap Leaf Unit 8 rectangles to opposite ends of a Floral Stamp Unit 7 rectangle to make a strip. Repeat for 2nd strip. Sew a Leaf Texture Brown Unit 2 square to each end of the rectangle strips. Sew strips to both zigzag sides of the Step 6 piece.
  8. Layer, bind and quilt.

  1. Sew 8 Square in a Square blocks. For each block use 4 Unit 5 triangles and 1 Unit 6 square. Sew a triangle to 2 opposite sides of the square; press seam toward the darker fabric. Sew the other 2 triangles to the remaining sides of the square. Press and trim block to 7-1/2".
  2. Sew 6 Square in a Square blocks. For each block use 4 Unit 7 triangles and 1 Unit 8 square. Sew a triangle to 2 opposite sides of the square; press seam toward the darker fabric. Sew the other 2 triangles to the remaining sides of the square. Press and trim block to 7-1/2".
  3. Sew 1 Unit 2 strip to each side of the Unit 1 Ruffled Feathers Block Panel.
  4. Sew 1 Unit 3 strip to the top and bottom of the Ruffled Feathers Block Panel from Step 3.
  5. Sew 2 separate rows of 3 squares each: Step 1 square, Step 2 square and Step 1 square. Sew a row to the top and a row to the bottom of the Ruffled Feathers Block Panel from Step 4.
  6. Sew 2 separate rows of 6 squares each: Unit 4 square, Step 1 square, Step 2 square, Step 1 square, Step 2 square and Unit 4 square. Sew a row to each side of the Ruffled Feathers Block Panel from Step 5.
  7. Sew the Unit 9 strips to the sides of the Step 6 pieced unit.

  3. Fuse the Unit 9 Wine Bottle square to the Unit 13 Fusible Web square.
  4. Fuse Step 1 square to Step 2 square; fuse Step 2 square to Step 3 square. Fuse layered Step 3 square to Unit 10 Black square.
  5. Make 6 Double Square in a Square blocks, each with 1 Unit 4 square, 4 Unit 6 triangle and 4 Unit 3 triangles. Sew a Unit 6 triangle to 2 opposite sides of the Unit 4 square; press seam toward the darker fabric. Sew other 2 Unit 6 triangles to remaining sides of square. Press and trim block to 5-1/2". Sew a Unit 3 triangle to 2 opposite sides of 5-1/2" square; press seam toward the darker fabric. Sew other 2 Unit 3 triangles to remaining sides of the square. Press and trim the block to 81/2".
  6. Make six Double Square in a Square blocks, each with 1 Unit 2 square, 4 Unit 8 and 4 Unit 5 triangles. Sew a Unit 8 triangle to 2 opposite sides of the Unit 2 square; press seam toward the darker fabric. Sew other 2 Unit 8 triangles to remaining sides of square. Press and trim block to 5-1/2". Sew Unit 5 triangle to 2 opposite sides of 5-1/2" square; press seam toward the darker fabric. Sew other 2 Unit 5 triangles to remaining sides of the square. Press and trim block to 8-1/2". Follow diagrams from Step 5.
  7. Sew together 2 rows of 4 blocks each; Step 6 square, Step 5 square, Step 6 square and Step 5 square.
  8. Sew together 2 rows of 2 blocks each, Unit 6 square and Unit 5 square.
  9. Referring to the quilt picture, sew the two Step 8 rows to opposite sides of the Step 4 panel.
  10. Refer to quilt picture, sew Step 7 rows to the 2 remaining sides of the Step 9 panel.
  11. Create a template using the 10-3/4" template material. Trace the attached design figure 1 on the 10-3/4"x3"template material.
  12. Fuse Unit 16 Fusible Web rectangles to Unit 12 rectangles. Trace Step 11 template onto Unit 12 rectangles; cut out the shapes.
  13. Fuse the Step 12 shapes to the Unit 7 Border strips. Secure edges by machine-sewing around the shapes.
  14. Sew the two 32-1/2"x2-3/4" Unit 7 borders to the quilt.
  15. Sew the two 37-1/2"x2-3/4" Unit 7 borders to the quilt.
  16. Layer, quilt and bind.
