ICONIC RIPPLE HAT & SCARF

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Lion Brand® Yarns:
    Vanna’s Choice® Baby: 1 skein each Aqua (A), Goldfish (B)
    Vanna’s Choice®: 2 skeins Black (C), 1 skein Rust (D), 1 skein Beige (E), 1 skein Mustard (F), 1 skein Honey (G)
  • Crochet hook size K-10½ or size to obtain gauge
  • Large-eyed blunt needle

DIRECTIONS:

GAUGE: 1 ripple = 2½". Check gauge.
STITCH EXPLANATION: sc2tog (sc 2 sts together). Insert hook into st and draw up a loop. Insert hook into next st and draw up a loop. Yo and draw through all 3 loops on hook – 1 st decreased. This project is worked in a ripple crochet pattern. To change color, work last st of old color to last yo. Yo with new color & draw through all loops to complete st. Fasten off old color. When changing color on hat, leave long yarn tails for seaming; when changing color on scarf, work over yarn tail of old color to avoid the need to weave in multiple ends.

Hat is worked back and forth in rows; then seamed.

Row 1: Work 2 sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 2 ch, *(sc2tog) twice, sc in next 2 ch, 2 sc in each of next 2 ch, sc in next 2 ch; rep from * across to last 7 ch, (sc2tog) twice, sc in next 2 ch, 2 sc in last ch – 8 ripples at the end of this row.

Rep Row 2, change color following Stripe Sequence until piece measures 10½" from beginning. Fasten off. Seamed hat forms a tube. Use Row 1 to make top of hat, or gather the last row worked. Using yarn tails, seam hat. Thread a length of A through Row 1 of hat, and pull to gather for top. Knot securely. Weave in ends.

Poncho is worked in one piece from one side across to opposite side. Once the first side has been worked, the piece is then divided for neck and front and back are worked separately.   • Crochet hook size I-9 or size to obtain gauge
  • Large-eyed blunt needle
  • Magnetic purse closure
  • Sewing needle & thread

DIRECTIONS:

GAUGE: 1 ripple = 3" with 1 strand of A & 2 strands of C held together. Check gauge.
STITCH EXPLANATION: sc2tog (sc 2 sts together). Insert hook into st and draw up a loop. Insert hook into next st and draw up a loop. Yarn over, draw through all 3 loops on hook – 1 st decreased.
Project is worked in a ripple crochet pattern. Clutch is worked with 3 strands held together throughout. Work with strand at center of each ball & the strand from the outside of the same ball or wind each ball of yarn into 2 separate balls.

With sewing needle & thread sew one half of magnetic closure to inside of flap & the other half to front of cutch.
Weave in ends.
Finished size 6"x9".
