Made everything splotchy
I’d dyed a few garments and was really pleased with the colors and how they turned out and then used this color fixative to make sure nothing would fade. After following the instructions my previously perfectly dyed clothes now have huge splotches and it actually removed color and dye, it absolutely did not fix anything. I’ve tried to re-dye the clothes and the removed color splotches still remain. I absolutely regret using this, it ruined all of the garments :(

Helps fix the colors
I have recently been experimenting with Shibori to enhance my sewing projects. It began when I started to sew new patterns using muslin to make sure they fit so as not to use good fabric. Since the pattern would “work” but be boring in muslin I decided to experiment with the dyeing technique. I enjoyed this so much that I began focusing on developing my skills. The Rit ColorStay Dye Fixative makes sure the color doesn’t fade in the wash or bleed on to other clothes.

Learn about DIY dying before embarking on a projec
I suppose it works as intended, but that’s not saying much. The Rit dye itself doesn’t really remain in any fibers in the presence of liquid. I’m not sure how much this helped. I never had any sense that the color was fixed.

WON'T COMPLETELY COVER A BLEACH SPILL ON NAVY
I ORDERED THIS HOPING IT WOULD COVER A BLEACH SPILL ON MY BLACK SHORTS. NEW OF COURSE. IT DID COVER SOME BUT NOT ENOUGH THAT I COULD WEAR THEM IN PUBLIC.
