Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good except... If you are planning on using this, the color fixative is a must. I use RIT dyes on cross stitch fabric, and even after boiling with salt on high heat and giving it an excellent rinse with soap, the wash after stitching on it has resulted in the red running on 2 different projects. if you want to wash it at all without it running, you had better do it only with cold as heck water. I will not use it again unless i use the color fixative on it because that's the only time i think it didnt run. Alternatively, just get a better quality dye. I've only had this problem with the scarlet. Use on something washed more often than cross stitch fabric, like clothes, might have even less good results. (my cross stitches get washed a maximum of 3 times including the one directly after the dyeing) Other RIT colors i have used have been much better.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing results for the price! Whenever i get some burst of creativity Rit dye is my go to. If using for tie dye, simply add the powder to some hot hot water mixed with about a tablespoon of salt and you'll be golden! I swear i used to think i was just bad at tie dying... till i added salt... Now every color comes out amazing, true to color, doesnt bleed, just all around a great value.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good for tie-dye, but process needs tweaking I bought several colors to make tie-dye shirts and socks. The dye worked for the shirts (cotton), but not exactly the best for the socks (polyester blend). It also does not bind as well as I had hoped, so the end result is more muted and colors run. So less is more as far as how much dye to use (i.e., leave white areas if you want colors to stand out), and longer setting time is key (overnight is minimum; after 1 hour, I tested some socks and the colors completely bled into each other). Washing out excess dye also is a delicate task to prevent darker colors and red from bleeding into lighter areas, and you have to repeatedly rinse BEFORE washing with detergent until the rinsing water is 100% clear or else colors will mix in the washing machine (it did not stain the stainless steel interior or plastic bumpers inside my washer machine). Black did not have the effect I was looking for; instead of marbling, it looked like stains. I have heard that heating the dyed clothing as it sets may help, and I did not use the color fixative, so next time I will try both to see if that does anything to help the dye not run. Teal, purple, navy blue, and brown worked best. After all that, I did get a few spiral shirts and a few pairs of decent socks so I was happy. This was my first attempt, I have not tried other dye brands.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Used Navy to dye denim Used 2/3 of box of navy dye for 3 pairs of denim adult jeans. Added 1/3 cup salt and a bit of dish soap. First 2 pairs came out great. Third pair not as dark but did darken some. Very happy with results!
