I use Rit powder dye to dye reeds for my basket weaving. I use hot water, vinegar and salt. I rinse in vinegar water and I get no rub off onto the natural reeds on my basket. Perfect! !
We bought this dye to tie dye some shirts for a group, and first the dye didn't dissolve properlly even after following all the directions. Then after letting the dyed shirts sit for over a day, we rinsed and washed them but the dye came out/ran with the other color we used. I would not recomend this dye at all
I highly recomend Rit Dye. I dyed slipcovers for a full size sofa, love seat, club chair and otterman. It was very faded denim blue almost shades of white, I used royal blue powder and the washer machine method and they now look brandnew! Great stuff!!!
I have been using Rit Dye for decades and I LOVE it! :) Just wanted to share that the Fuchsia shade is the most beautiful Barbie doll pink that I have ever seen! Rit is an inexpensive, easy and great way to liven up your wardrobe. I hope they never stop making it.
The dye worked well if you follow directions exactly. Use salt and tbs. of detergent, and pre mix. No complaints
I tried to use the powder dye using the washing machine method on a pair of linen pants. The color looked like it had come out perfect at first but it turned out it was horribly streaked! The tye dye effect may be fun for some modern wear but I was trying to dye a pair of pants for re-enactment purposes. I ended up using the liquid which worked beautifully.
Rit Dye is an excellent product to use in order to extend the life of household linens. I have added years to the life of towels, bed linens and curtains by adding fresh color. I have used Rit Dye for over 50 years, and will continue to do so.
this product is great and easy to use. just use the directions on the box. and trust me, don't use outside waiting for a hurricane to come thru...(my learned lesson!!!)
