Description
63”x 84” Quilt with Half Square Triangles
22”x 28” Matching Pillow Sham
 
SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
  •   ¾ yd of 5 Different print quilt cottons
  • 3 yd Contrast quilt cotton (black)
  • 1 yd Binding Fabric
  • 4 ys Backing fabric
  • Batting
  • Basic sewing supplies
  • Sewing machine
  • Iron and pressing surface

DIRECTIONS:

Use ¼” seam allowance

Note: Quilt is made from 182 half square triangles.

  1. Cut twenty four  6” squares from each of the 5 different fabrics.
  2. Cut each square in half diagonally.
  3. Cut 20 strips 4 ¼”xWOF from contrast fabric.
  4. Beginning with one printed triangle in the top left corner, follow layout of diagram for rows; positioning triangle prints as desired.
  5. With RST sew a 4 ¼” contrast strip to diagonal edge of first triangle extending past triangle. (see diagram) Press.
  6. With RST, sew next row of 5 triangles together. Press.
  7. Sew triangle row to contrast row; then sew a contrast strip to triangles. Press.
  8. Repeat following diagram. Note: contrast strips will need to be sewn together to make correct length.
  9. Press quilt top.
  10. Trim contrast strips off to square off all sides.
  11. Cut backing and batting to size of quilt.
  12. Layer and quilt as desired.
  13. Cut 9 binding strips 3” x WOF; sew ends together.
  14. Bind quilt.

 

22” x 28” Pillow Sham

Note: Sham can be made from left over fabric from quilt

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • One 6” square from each of 5 fabrics
  • 1 ½ yd fabric for front and back
  • ¼ yd contrast fabric (black)
  • Basic sewing supplies
  • Sewing machine
  • Iron and pressing surface

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Lay out triangles and strips as shown.
  2. Sew together using a ¼” seam.
  3. Cut solid front piece at a 45* angle to fit contrast strips.
  4. Cut to measure 23” x 29”.
  5. Cut 2 23” x 18” for envelope type back
  6. Press under ½” on one 23” side of each piece and sew a narrow hem.
  7. With RST, lay the back pieces onto the front overlapping hemmed edges.
  8. Using a ½” seam, sew all around outside edges.
  9. Clip corners and turn and press.
