Description

 SUPPLIES AND TOOLS:

·         Yarn:

o   (A) Lion Brand Tweed Stripes in “Caribbean”, 5 balls

o   (B) Red Heart Sashay in “Malachite”, 2 balls

·         Needles: size 11 US circulars at least 24” and size 10 ½ US 29”

·         Buttons: one 1 ½” blue, one 1 1/8” green

·         Scissors

·         Measuring tape

·         Hand sewing needle

·         Thread to match Sashay

 

NOTES

l.   One size fits most.

2.  abbreviations  used:  PU = pick up and knit; st = stitch; K = knit; RS = right side; WS = wrong side;         

CO = cast on; BO = bind off

3.  Wrap is worked flat; circulars used to accommodate large number of sts.

4.  st used – garter (k every row)

5.  gauge:  3 sts and 5 rows = 1” in garter, size 11 needles

DIRECTIONS:

CO 42 sts with A using larger needles.

K 2 rows (row 1 is RS).

 

Ruffle Section: K with A & B yarns at the same time.  Hints: (1) when doing a K st, wrap A & B        

one  at a time, 1st A and then B.  (2)Leave a 3” tail of B when beginning/ending ruffle section.

Ruffle  Pattern

Rows 1 & 2: with A & B, K using every 3rd hole (means skip 2) of B.

Rows 3 & 4: with A & B, K using every 2nd hole (means skip 1) of B; cut B at end of row 4.

K 2 ½”with A only; end with WS row.

Repeat rows 1 through 4 of ruffle pattern.

 

Work even in garter st for 44” with A.  Slip the 1st st of every row knitwise.

 

       Ruffle Section: K with A & B at same time – see “hints” above.

Neckband

With RS facing and smaller needles, PU 1 st per garter ridge along neck edge.  1st and last sts will be in top row of ruffle sections (see photo)

Finishing

l.  Finish tails: A in traditional manner; B – cut tail to 1 ½”, gather ends, fold ends toward fabric,

stitch in place with hand needle and thread.

2. Closure: Button Stack (permanent closure) – hand  sew  smaller button atop larger one.  Crisscross

ends  of neckband and hand sew stack 1 ½” from ends.  Optional non-permanent closure – use

decorative  brooch  or shawl pin.

3. Tug ruffles: gently pull bottom edge of ruffled rows to set stitches.
