SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Bernat&® Handicrafter&® Crochet Thread (2.8 oz; 350 yds): Adrift, 3 balls
  • Size D/2 crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge
  • Scissors

DIRECTIONS:

MEASUREMENTS
Approx. 12" wide x 15-1/2" high, excluding handles.
GAUGE
26 sc and 28 rows = 4"

Note: Work must be turned at the end of each row so bag does not twist.

BAG
Beg at bottom, ch 79.
1st row: (RS). 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 1 sc in front loop of each of next 76 ch. 3 sc in last ch. Turn. Working in rem loops of foundation ch, 1 sc in each of next 76 ch. 2 sc in last ch. Join with sl st to first sc. Turn. 158 sc.
2nd to 4th rows: Ch 1.1 sc in each st around. Join with sl st to first sc. Turn.
5th row: (RS). Ch 5 (counts as dtr). 1 dtr in each sc around. Join with sl st to top of ch 4. Turn.
Rep 2nd to 5th rows for pat until work from beg measures 14", ending on a 5th row. Turn.

Next 5 rows:
Ch 1. 1 sc in each st around. Join with sl st to first sc. Turn.
Next row: (RS). Ch 1. 1 sc in each of next 15 sc. *Ch 3. Skip next 3 sc. 1 sc in each of next 42 sc. Ch 3. Skip next 3 sc.* 1 sc in each of next 31 sc. Rep from * to * once. 1 sc in each of next 16 sc. Join with sl st to first sc. Turn.
Next row: Ch 1. 1 sc in each of next 15 sc. *3 sc in next ch-3 sp. 1 sc in each of next 42 sc. 3 sc in next ch-3 sp.* 1 sc in each of next 31 sc. Rep from * to * once. 1 sc in each of next 16 sc. Join with sl st to first sc. Turn.
Next 2 rows: Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc around. Join with sl st to first sc. Turn. Fasten off after last row.

HANDLES (make 2)
Ch 131.
1st row: 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook. 1 sc in each ch to end of chain. Turn.
2nd to 14th rows: Ch 1. 1 sc in each sc to end of row. Turn.
15th row: Fold Handle in half lengthwise. Ch 1. Working through both thicknesses, 1 sc in each sc to end of row. Fasten off.

FINISHING
Thread ends of Handles through ch-3 sps and tie into knots as shown in picture.
