2 things; #1, although I love this product for the most part although it is no longer available in a 44" width and the iron-on adhesive was much better and the actual quality of the interfacing and adhesive was much better. #2, this product often times does not stick well unless wash your fabric first. I make totes and handbags from deco fabric (mostly 100% cotton) and the sizing used during mfg process prevents the interfacing from sticking. Many of the fabrics I use are not washable. #2,
I have been using this product ever since I started making and selling pocketbooks and totes. It holds up very well and gives just enough stability without producing stiffness. It is very important to follow the directions for application in order to produce the desired effect. Interfacing your fabric before you cut out the pattern saves you a step and makes the process less stressful.
I design and make handbags and use the product to add stability to the fabrics. I would like to find a heavy fusible interfacing.
i use shape flex for millinery. i wish i could get it in gray. it does come in black, too but not here. it works much better than non woven interfacings i have tried for hat brims, etc. i only wish it was actually the advertised 22 inches. it is more like 20 inches wide. i also wish pellon sold it in 44 inch wide bolts. there would be much less waste for me. another inconsistency i have noticed is the varegation in the amount of stiffness. white tends to be softer than black.
Shape Flex is my very favorite of all interfacings. I learned to sew at the age of 8 and have been sewing forever since then (some 45+ years later). I have used Shape Flex in prom gowns, my own business suits, sometimes crafts, and it is plain an simple my overall favorite. I like to use it in black for the darker fabrics. I don't have the "bubbling" problem with this as with some others
