Singer 3223 Simple 23-Stitch Essential Sewing Machine is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 10.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from FABULOUS!!! I have not touched a sewing machine since my teens which was many moons ago and wanted to get back into sewing so I did some comparison shopping to find a machine that was easy to use. This machine is a true winner. I absolutely love it. Forget the accompanying CD which shows all types of models. Pull out the manual & go on YouTube for a quick tutorial for threading needle & bobbin; do read the manual for which stitch setting to use for your project; it's really that simple. in three days I completed my first project which is a crib comforter for my granddaughter. Sewing through thick layers was a breeze. Love this machine & I highly recommend.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love it! I purchased this machine online, although I had looked at it previously in stores. With the coupon special, it was a very good buy. It is lighter than my old machine and that is nice. I made a 80 block quilt over the last few days, each block being a 5" block, with LA Lakers, USC, and Broncos material. I finally conquered the bobbin and threading of the needle! The thread holder is still a little strange to me, but, I am figuring how to use it. (The recipient is a Bronco/Lakers/U.of Southern California fan.) The machine does what I wanted it to do and it is fun to use it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very nice sewing experience I got this Singer yesterday on sale at Jo-Ann's and I'm very happy I did. It has a great selection of 23 useful and decorative stitches, and it's really 23 different stitches not counting each width of zig-zag as another stitch like you see with some machine advertising. There's even a scallop stitch and a feather stitch and a good selection of useful stretch stitches. You can only change the width on the plain zig-zag, and you can only change the stitch length on 1/3 of the stitches, including the straight stitch and zig-zag, but really you wouldn't need to change the width and length on most of the stitches. I like how the machine is very easy to use compared to computerized machines, and I like how it uses a standard Class 15 bobbin, which are really easy to find. It also uses a standard screw-in type sewing machine light bulb which you don't have to take to a dealer to change. The machine is a little louder than my 40-year old Brother, but that might just mean it has a powerful motor. Also, the zig-zag is extra wide but can be set narrower, and all the stitches (I tried them all) look very nice and even. The bobbin is the type with the old-fashioned removable bobbin case, which some may not like but it doesn't bother me because I'm used to that kind. All-in-all, a great machine for beginner because it's easy to use, but good for more advanced sewers, too, because of the nice selection of stitches and the automatic buttonholer. Comes with a DVD and a pretty good instruction manual. The DVD talks about all types of Singer sewing machines, not just this model, so it can be a little confusing at times.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent beginner's machine I received this machine yesterday and have since used it to mend several items (split seams, loose hems). My mother taught me how to sew using a Singer, so I went with this brand because I am familiar with it. It is my first sewing machine purchase, I'm 23 years old. Setup was extremely easy, especially with the quick-start manual, which explains how to wind and load bobbins as well as thread the machine. This machine has a front-load bobbin with a bobbin case, and although I have only ever used machines with drop-in bobbins, this one was extremely easy to install. Some reviews have stated that learning this new machine was difficult for them, but I had no problems at all and had the machine operating within 15 minutes of unpacking it. Things that I like so far: 1. Surprisingly powerful motor (Yes, it is a bit louder than some machines, but that is a trade-off for having a good motor!) 2. Diversity and number of stitch types (Remember, it's a BEGINNER's machine!) 3. Accessible light bulb (All you need is a screwdriver and replacement bulb - no need to take it to a repair shop like some other machines.) 4. SIMPLE! A beginner's machine should have few electronic components to be potentially confused by. With this machine, I can confidently change my stitch type, length, zig-zag width, and thread tension without worrying about complicated machine settings. 5. It's relatively light-weight Negatives: 1. I wish that it came with a hard top cover. It does come with a dust cover, but it would be nice to have a hard case for storage purposes. 2. It's pink. Come on. Sewing is a traditionally feminine hobby already. You don't need to rub it in by drowning me with flowers and pink. An all-white machine would have been fine. Overall, I am very pleased with this machine and excited to use it for more advanced projects. I have not used the button hole foot or the button sewing foot, so I cannot speak to how they function.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great beginners sewing machine I bought this for my daughter-in-law, for her birthday. She just loves it! Was sewing by hand for big projects, and this has made it so much easier for her.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simply the Greatest My sewing is mostly for Samaritan's Purse Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes, making dresses, tote bags, reversible sun hats. I bought this Singer Simple 3223 about three years ago and love it! This time I searched to find the exact same model and am so happy that JoAnn had it in stock so now I can sew with friends.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I am a big fan of Joanne's but unfortunately I have had nothing but problems with this machine since I bought it 4 months ago. The needle keeps getting locked in the bobbin casing which bends it or breaks it. I have adjusted everything possible but nothing helps. Singer has extended my warranty and is having me send the machine to their service center in Atlanta at my expense. I hope that it works when I get it back. So far, it has been a big disappointment.
