Singer Professional 5 14T968DC Serger Overlock Machine is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 10.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful machine! My sister and I both bought this serger. We went to. 3 day quilting retreat and went page by page through the manual. There are also some great u-tube videos. And for the presser feet, if you go to all, there are downloadable instructions for how to set up the presser feet. It looks intimidating, but is actually quite easy to use. It has as many features as some more expensive servers. To me I'd rather thread this mechanical serger than spend extra thousands to get an air threader. We both are pleased with this serger.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great machine, feature-rich for the price Those who said they couldn't get this machine threaded must not have ever threaded an older serger to know how EASY this machine is. The manual provides clear instructions to do so, plus the loopers have a partial self-thread feature. My old machine was a real pain to thread but not this one - I don't even bother trying thread to change colors as its so simple to thread. The only thing I've noticed is that it needs some adjustment in tension and pressed foot pressure periodically when sewing thicker fabrics or multiple layers (this is not unexpected to me, but since it advertises auto-tension, some may think they'll never need to adjust it). Switching setup from overlock to cover stitch is relatively easy, considering you have to move both needles, but after you do it once or twice, it's very easy. Overall, a great 2-in-1 machine that competes with higher end machines at more than double the price!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from N0thing Better I have sewn for over forty-years, and during that time, you name it I have sewn it. I never care to use a serger or cover stitch machine til my husband and daughter (she has a masters in costume design) gave me this machine for my birthday in Febrary this year. I love it. Whether I am piecing a quilt, making shirts, outfits for my cats, or slipcovers; this has become my favorite machine to use when ever I can. My husband was lucky enough to find this on sale for $599.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Machine I bought this machine a few months ago. I printed out the manual and went step by step on how to thread it and how to sew each different stitch. I was very pleasantly supprised how easy it was. After reading other comments I thought it would be harder. It was well worth the price. I had previously owned a bernina 1300 and was never satisfied with it's stitch quality. I am much happier with this machine and all of it's functions. It is a keeper!

by from Terribly difficult to thread I follow directions well and have taught myself many things. I cannot get this serger threaded. I finally gave up and went to two classes. Unfortunately, life got busy and it got unthreaded and I can't get it rethreaded. I can't take it back for instruction because the dealer is out of business. What a mistake.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from FINALLY! I GOT WHAT I WANTED I have always wanted a machine like this. I have owned Singers for almost 30 years. I have worked with industrial machines but Singers are my favorite, even their industrial type. I have dreamed of owning my own 5- thread machine and they finally made one for the right price. Although it is a little difficult to thread, anything worth doing is worth taking the time to do it. I printed out the catalog and put it in a handy notebook I keep at my side when I am sewing. I only use it for the fancier things I am making and I use my 4-thread for every day serging, that way I don't have to change all the settings for different hems, seams...whatever. I LOVE THIS MACHINE.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Impressive I bought this machine because I couldn't afford the one I really wanted self threading. Threading is challenging at first, only took 3 hours to get it going, AFTER I figured out there is a lever you needed to engage to get it to overlock. Then I was ready to play. If would suggest if you don't have alot of experience with machines to take a few classes where you purchased it. It is a very nice machine for the price, but the needles are difficult to purchase. Keep in mind that Professional is in the name and they mean it! If you aren't a patient person you will become frustrated at first but it is a nice machine once you get to know it. Patience is a virtue and it pays off in the end!!!!!!
