Singer Professional 5 14T968DC Serger is rated 2.8 out of 5 by 10.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from N0thing Better I have sewn for over forty-years, and during that time, you name it I have sewn it. I never care to use a serger or cover stitch machine til my husband and daughter (she has a masters in costume design) gave me this machine for my birthday in Febrary this year. I love it. Whether I am piecing a quilt, making shirts, outfits for my cats, or slipcovers; this has become my favorite machine to use when ever I can. My husband was lucky enough to find this on sale for $599.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Machine I bought this machine a few months ago. I printed out the manual and went step by step on how to thread it and how to sew each different stitch. I was very pleasantly supprised how easy it was. After reading other comments I thought it would be harder. It was well worth the price. I had previously owned a bernina 1300 and was never satisfied with it's stitch quality. I am much happier with this machine and all of it's functions. It is a keeper!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product ! This machine is great ! For those who are afraid to thread it...go on youtube and look for videos on the quantumlock which threads the same. someone has posted great threading directions....after watching those i threaded my professioanl 5 with ease...works wonderfully ! ! ! !

Rated 0 out of 5 by from Terribly difficult to thread I follow directions well and have taught myself many things. I cannot get this serger threaded. I finally gave up and went to two classes. Unfortunately, life got busy and it got unthreaded and I can't get it rethreaded. I can't take it back for instruction because the dealer is out of business. What a mistake.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from FINALLY! I GOT WHAT I WANTED I have always wanted a machine like this. I have owned Singers for almost 30 years. I have worked with industrial machines but Singers are my favorite, even their industrial type. I have dreamed of owning my own 5- thread machine and they finally made one for the right price. Although it is a little difficult to thread, anything worth doing is worth taking the time to do it. I printed out the catalog and put it in a handy notebook I keep at my side when I am sewing. I only use it for the fancier things I am making and I use my 4-thread for every day serging, that way I don't have to change all the settings for different hems, seams...whatever. I LOVE THIS MACHINE.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Impressive I bought this machine because I couldn't afford the one I really wanted self threading. Threading is challenging at first, only took 3 hours to get it going, AFTER I figured out there is a lever you needed to engage to get it to overlock. Then I was ready to play. If would suggest if you don't have alot of experience with machines to take a few classes where you purchased it. It is a very nice machine for the price, but the needles are difficult to purchase. Keep in mind that Professional is in the name and they mean it! If you aren't a patient person you will become frustrated at first but it is a nice machine once you get to know it. Patience is a virtue and it pays off in the end!!!!!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Is a waste of money I bought this machine last April it came in with a chain setting to the thread. I could never make it work to over lock stitches. The manual is not clear how thread. I been working with commercial serger in the factory for over 10 yrs. And I had Elna lock 5 thread for a long time and work well I don’t have trouble of changing or treading it. This 5 14T968DC Serger I called Singer if there is a DVD in how to operate this machine they said knows. I like the stitching selection on the ad if I can make this Mach. To work the over lock it will be great. Anybody know of video how tread this machine please let me know.

Rated 0 out of 5 by from Don't buy it. Waste of money. Do not waste your money. I've been using sergers for 20+ years, and have a LOT of patience, but this machine is impossibly hard to thread, loses tension easily, and is a real pain in the rear to change settings for stitches. I do not appreciate having to re-thread every time I change stitches, and then having to spend hours with tweezers picking out horribly stuck/tangled mats of fabric and thread from the feeder. I thought of throwing the stupid thing into the river, but instead I'm just going to craigslist this piece of **** and buy a $250 machine at a different store. This was a total waste of money and time.
