SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Patons Delish (3.5 oz; 76 yds): Apple Cider 2 balls
  • Size U.S. 11 knitting needles
  • Size U.S. 17 knitting needles or size needed to obtain tension
  • Scissors

DIRECTIONS:

TENSION
9 sts and 13 rows = 4" with larger needles in stocking st.
SIZE
One size to fit average woman’s head.

With smaller needles cast on 47 sts.
1st row: (RS). *K1. P1. Rep from * to last st. K1.
2nd row: *P1. K1. Rep from * to last st. P1.
Rep last 2 rows of (K1. P1) rib twice more.
Next row: (RS). K2. *M1. K5. Rep from * to end of row. 56 sts.
Place marker at end of last row.
Change to larger needles.
Beg with a purl row, cont in stocking st until work from marked row measures 6" [15 cm], ending with a purl row.
Shape top: 1st row: (RS). *K3. K2tog. K2. Rep from * to end of row. 48 sts.
2nd and alt rows: Purl.
3rd row: *K2. K2tog. K2. Rep from * to end of row. 40 sts.
5th row: *K2. K2tog. Rep from * to end of row. 30 sts.
7th row: *K2tog. Rep from * to end of row. 15 sts. Break yarn, leaving a long end. Draw end tightly through rem sts and fasten securely. Sew center back seam.
Pom-pom: Wind yarn around 4 fingers approx. 60 times. Remove from fingers and tie tightly in center. Cut through each side of loops. Trim to a smooth round shape. Sew pom-pom to top of Hat.
