GAUGE:

20 sts and 26 rows = 4” [10 cm] with larger needles in stocking st.

DIRECTIONS:

The directions are written for smallest size. If changes are necessary for larger sizes the instructions will be written thus ( ). When only one number is given, it applies to all sizes. For ease in working, circle all numbers pertaining to your size.

BACK
**With smaller needles, cast on 93 (105-117-129-153-171) sts.
1st row: (RS). K3. *P3. K3. Rep from * to end of row.
2nd row: P3. *K3. P3. Rep from * to end of row.
Rep last 2 rows until work from beg measures 7” [18 cm], ending with 2nd row and inc 1 (inc 1-inc 1-dec 5-dec 5-dec 5) st(s) evenly across last row. 94 (106-118-124-148-166) sts.

Change to larger needles and proceed in pat as follows: (See Chart II on page 32).
1st row: (RS). K1. *ssk. K2. yo. K2. Rep from * to last 3 sts. K3.
2nd and alt rows: Purl.
3rd and 5th rows: As 1st row.
7th, 9th and 11th rows: K3. *K2. yo. K2. K2tog. Rep from * to last st. K1.
12th row: As 2nd row.
Rep last 12 rows of pat until work from beg measures 17” [43 cm], ending with a WS row.

Shape sleeves: Keeping cont of pat, inc 1 st each end of next 12 rows, then cast on 6 sts beg following 4 rows, taking inc sts into pat. 142 (154-166-172-196-214) sts. Place marker at each end of last row.**
Cont even in pat until work from marked row measures 6-1/2 (7-7-1/2-7-1/2-8-8-1/2)” [16.5 (18-19-19-20.5-21.5) cm], ending with a WS row.

Shape shoulders: Cast off 18 (20-22-22-26-29) sts beg next 6 rows. Cast off rem 34 (34-34-40-40-40) sts.

FRONT
Work from ** to ** as given for Back.

Cont even in pat until work from marked row measures 3-1/2 (4-4-1/2-4-1/2-5-5-1/2)” [9 (10-11.5-11.5-12.5-14) cm], ending with a WS row.

Shape neck: Next row: Pat 61 (67-73-73-85-94) sts. Turn. Leave rem sts unworked.
Dec 1 st at neck edge on next 4 rows, then every following alt row 3 times. 54 (60-66-66-78-87) sts rem.
Cont even in pat until work measures same length as Back before shoulder shaping, ending with a WS row.
Cast off 18 (20-22-22-26-29) sts beg next and following alt row. Purl 1 row. Cast off rem 18 (20-22-22-26-29) sts.

With RS of work facing, cast off next 20 (20-20-26-26-26) sts.
Join yarn to rem sts and pat to end of row.

Dec 1 st at neck edge on next 4 rows, then every following alt row 3 times. 54 (60-66-66-78-87) sts rem.
Cont even in pat until work measures same length as Back before shoulder shaping, ending with a RS row.
Cast off 18 (20-22-22-26-29) sts beg next and following alt row. Knit 1 row. Cast off rem 18 (20-22-22-26-29) sts.

Collar
Note: Collar is worked sideways, then sewn around neck edge with seam at center back.

With larger needles cast on 53 sts.
1st row: (RS). K1. *ssk. K2. yo. K2. Rep from * to last 4 sts. K4.
2nd and alt rows: K3. Purl to end of row.
3rd and 5th rows: As 1st row.
7th, 9th and 11th rows: K3. *K2. yo. K2. K2tog. Rep from * to last 2 sts. K2.
12th row: As 2nd row.
Rep last 12 rows of pat with 3 sts of garter edge, until work from beg measures length to fit loosely around neck edge, ending with a WS. Cast off.

FINISHING:

Sew shoulder seams.
Beg at center Back, pin Collar in position, having WS of Collar facing RS of work and noting 3 st garter edge will be outer edge of Collar. Sew in position. Sew back seam.
Armbands: With smaller needles, pick up and knit 75 (81-87-87-93-99) sts evenly along sleeve edge.
Work in (K3. P3) ribbing as given for Back for 1” [2.5 cm], ending with a WS row. Cast off in rib.
Pin garment pieces to measurements. Cover with a damp cloth, leaving cloth to dry.
Sew side and armband seams.
