Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love the fabric Bought this to make burp cloths and they turned out so cute!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Cute, but not printed in line with the weave When making baby blankets from flannel, I like to even the cut edges first (essentially "pulling a thread", but with flannel, you have to pick threads to get a straight line). Unfortunately, the quality control on the printing process is not good, so the line of the words do not line up with the line of the fabric. Was off by enough to be highly visible. Had to scrap using that fabric for this purpose.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Why You Shouldn't Buy Snuggle Flannel (We are only putting this review on the prints we actually washed or sewed up.) Been using Snuggle fabric for 20 years for charity work. Certainly hasn't been a high-quality flannel, but it's been very serviceable in years past for lower-cost items. Bought hundreds of yards of this over the last several months (over 100 different prints) for a new baby-blanket project and did our first pre-wash this week (checking for shrinkage and bleeding). Washed 10 different prints (some sewn, some unsewn) on the handwash setting with a slow spin and dried on delicate (not what a person is going to do with our baby blankets, but we wanted to give it a fair test). HORRIBLE RESULTS! SHRINK AND BLEED. Shrinkage ran 1-3" per yard (not bad). Bleeding was most noticeable on the deep colours and what you'd expect (be sure to wash only like colors together, as it was enough to make a difference). PILLING. Even cheap bedsheets fare better than this! It looks like they've figured out a way to fluff the surface to give it the appearance of being flannel, without actually giving you much (if any) nap. Once it's washed, there certainly isn't any "flannel" left -- just a bunch of little lint balls stuck to some loosely-woven thread. The pilling ranged from bad to disgusting, with all of the pieces (sewn or not) looking worse than daily-used, ten-year-old PJs or sheets. THIN FABRIC (the worst part of these purchases). The tremendous amount of sizing put on this fabric actually made for a strong chemical smell during our laundry load filled with only new Snuggle fabric. Once this sizing was washed out and the little bit of nap pilled up, there was almost nothing left which you'd call fabric. The loft was COMPLETELY gone, and you could see the shape of every bit of whatever was inside the finished blankets (seams, thread, batting, etc.) Nothing fluffy left at all. Even steaming and ironing didn't help (who's going to do that with a baby blanket, eh?). If you aren't extremely careful in handling the fabric (washed), the holes on the bottom of the iron easily snag it. Be careful not to press near the corners or other heavily-seamed areas or you'll get serious flat spots, since there is no loft left anywhere. If the fabric catches on anything with an edge (think jewelry, crib parts, claws, etc.), it easily snags and tears. What good are baby blankets, burp rags, and changing pads which can't be washed, dried, or used around children? Definitely NOT suitable after washing for use around your pets (unless they've been declawed and don't wear collars or bite with their teeth). We certainly could NOT give anything made with the current Snuggle fabric as gifts or donate them anywhere! (I feel sorry for people who buy ready-made items made of this stuff. You will definitely want to check with the seller before purchasing. Until we got serious about testing, we had no idea that this is what Joann Snuggle fabric had cheapened to, and it's amazing what they can make it look like with a large amount of sizing.) All in all, not a good experience, and Joann's should raise the mfr specs of their flannel A LOT. Ten years ago, they sold a decent product in their price range (my daughter is sleeping under a memory rag quilt made of 80 different Snuggle fabrics 11 years ago, and it's still very nice). No longer true, and there's no honorable excuse for it. Hope this helps someone else avoid the same waste of time and disappointment which we've experienced.
