Rated 5 out of 5 by from south maid crochet cotton i have used south maid for 42 years & like it the best of any i have tried. my doilies are lovely! i wish i could still get varigated yellow & that the varigated purple was a bit darker in colour. This product stands up well wash after wash and i trust it to turn out really outstanding doilies. its hard to get the variety of colour and it should be completely wrapped it plastic to protect it. where i buy south maid it is usually sitting in an inch of dust and is quite dirty which turns me off and then i wont buy it. please wrap it better and generate some old discontinued colours!!!! thanx!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from disappointed I just purchased 4 balls of south maid crochet thread #10, and was so disappointed. I think I found out why you can't find it in stores. If you get the chance to feel the thread , you will notice some sort of coating on it ,which makes it a little harder to work with, and it dosen't conform to the stitch that well. so no more south maid for me,maybe I can do Something with it. anyone know what is going on??

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Re: where it's made I first bought South Maid solely because it was made in Hungary! I am a 1st generation Hungarian American, and I taught myself to crochet. I did this because I wanted to achieve my Hungarian grandmother's incredible skill in thread crocheting (among many other thing!!), to the point of even when she was completely blind, creating her own filet patterns as she went (she never ever wrote anything down!) for huge tablecloths, bedspreads, and many other things! Hungarians are renowned for their incredible needleworks of all kinds (look up Hungarian embroidery if you're curious!), and this is why I was drawn to the South Maid thread made in Hungary. Since switching to Indian production the quality has declined, and now I will switch.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not a great product! This product was recommended to me as a replacement for J&P Clark's Knit-Cro-Sheen. The color (cream) was a great match, but the quality of the thread was very poor. It is very stiff and scratchy and splits badly. The appearance is dull and coarse. Thank goodness I only ordered one.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Stiff, sticky, won't buy again It really is stiff and sticky feeling. I will not buy it again. I can't make a whole doily out of it, it hurts my fingers so much! The quality is not great. I have a little left and I use it for very small projects like ornaments. YUCK

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Very disappointed. I really needed this thread to complete a project. I have always known SouthMaid to excel in quality but this time was different. The thread is course and not plyable. It is pulling and is hard to flow through my fingers. I never thought this would happen with a SouthMaid product.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from This breaks very easily First time I bought this brand, but I won't buy it again. I've had it break several times when I tied a knot at the end of my project and pulled it tight! Had to throw the project away, as it unraveled and no way to repair it. I'm sticking to Aunt Lydia's or Knit Cro-sheen.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Stiff! I liked this thread because it was a good price but iot is so stiff that it does not glide over the needle too well and leave stitches in different sizes .
