Quilt is approximately 76”x94”

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • 1/2 yd of 4 different dark fabrics
  • 1/4 yd of 4 different bright fabrics
  • 1/2 yd of print fabric for block center
  • 5 1/2 yd of gray fabric
  • ¾ yd binding fabric
  • 2 1/3 yd 108”or 120” wide fabric for backing
  • 76" x 96" batting
  • Basic sewing supplies
  • Sewing machine
  • Iron and pressing surface

¼” seam allowance used.

DIRECTIONS:

      Cut: (for twenty 16" blocks)

             From gray fabric cut:

                   Eighty 4 1/2" squares

                   Eighty 2 1/2" squares

                   Eighty 4 7/8" squares - cut each square in half diagonally

                   Eighty 2 7/8" squares - cut each square in half diagonally

              From each of the 4 dark fabrics cut:

                  Twenty 4 7/8" squares - cut each square in half diagonally

              From each of the 4 bright fabrics cut:

                   Twenty 2 7/8" squares - cut each square in half diagonally

                From the print fabric cut:

                   Twenty 4 1/2" squares

       Cut 13 2 1/2" x WOF gray for sashing

       Cut 9 3 1/2" x WOF gray for border

 

For each block:

Sew RST, using a 1/4" seam

  1. Sew 8 bright triangles to 8 small gray triangles - diagram #1.
  2. Sew squares together - diagram #2.
  3. Sew together to make rows 1, 2, & 3 - diagram #3.
  4. Sew rows together.
  5. Sew 8 dark triangles to 8 large gray triangles - diagram #1.
  6. Sew squares together - diagram #2.
  7. Sew together to make rows 1, 2, & 3 - diagram #4.
  8. Sew rows together to make a 16 1/2" square. Press.
  9. Repeat with remaining fabrics as desired making 20 blocks.
  10. Lay blocks out as desired, having 4 blocks across and 5 blocks down.
  11. Sew sashing between each block in every row.
  12. Sew sashing between each row, sew rows together.
  13. Sew 3 1/2" border to top, bottom, and sides.
  14. Cut backing and batting. 76” x 94”.
  15. Layer backing, batting and quilt top together, baste or pin together.
  16. Quilt as desired.
  17. Sew binding strips in together; using your preferred method, bind quilt.
