Rated 2 out of 5 by from Mixed Feelings about this Stencil Cutter I bought this Stencil Cutter to use with Machine Embroidered items, as I am not into stencilling. I ordered it last week and have just used it last night. So far, as stated I have mixed feelings about this thing. First off, I am Extremely Disappointed to see that it has no on/off switch. Once you plug it in, you are on your way. Secondly, there is no sort of indicator light to tell you that it is on. Thirdly, no light or any way to know how hot (which is VERY by the way) like an iron, that is is ready. The package tells you to let it sit "about 6-8 minutes" ! I should have kept better track of time, but I was busy getting my other stuff together to work on. I don't think it was quite that long before I started to work with the Cutter. Like I said, I do machine embroidery; I hope my attached photos are helpful to someone. It did a good job around the edges of the Christmas ornament I worked on, so I give the Cutter high marks for that, but I suppose a carefully aimed cig lighter would have too ... but I don't smoke, so ... Bad thing happened when the tip and the barrel came into contact with the stabilizer I used ... the tip and the barrel got all gunky and black, sticky-like (hard when dry though, don't know if it will transfer). Unsure about cleanup yet. The cord is very short and very uncooperative. The very wimpy stand WILL NOT stay put on a slick surface so I found a small piece of that stuff you put on a shelf (don't know the real name of it) and that held the stand just fine (photo attached). Again, I cannot speak on making stencils with this Stencil Cutter; I have only used it to melt mylar and stray threads and will probably continue to do so. I will say this about using it for stenciling ~ since this thing gets so hot, I've read elsewhere that a lot of people have trouble with the tips breaking; I'd say it's no wonder. Just be easy with it. It does take a steady go, not stopping and starting if you can help it. Try to get it on sale if you can, I was lucky to do so. Finally, I am neither rich nor greedy, but I believe in the old saying, tis better to have than have not. And if you are a crafter, it pays to have the Right tools to do what you enjoy. Since the woodworking tool does not have the right tip (for what I needed), and I think it gets hotter than this cutter (950 degrees I think), go ahead and make the purchase. You will need it someday. And you will be glad you got it. Yes, I recommend it.
