Swift Yarn Winder-Large is rated 3.5 out of 5 by 15.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from I like it. I tested the Swift out as soon as I got it because of some of the reviews. I used it on two separate hanks of yarn and had no issues it worked great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from love it looks nice set up, operates well - I've been using mine for several years and I am really happy to have it. Especially nice if bought on sale or with a coupon! I highly recommend

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Wooden screw stripped Good price, especially with coupon, and I like that it is real wood. Suspecting that the wooden threads would be fragile, I was especially careful with the wooden screw. But the inevitable "hiccups" as hanks unwound made the top-heavy unit wobble which quickly stripped the threads anyway. Solution: sawed off the lower 2/3 of clamp and attached a wider base which I secured to a table with C clamps. Result: improved function, less aesthetically pleasing.

by from DON'T DO IT!!! My second defective swift. I failed to return the first one, so I was stuck with it. I thought maybe I was just unlucky with that ONE. I ordered a new one, and the quality is really lacking. There were all kinds of wood chips inside the hole for the screw that holds the umbrella up. It appears to have already been returned before as nothing was in its proper packaging but thrown loosely in the box with the packaging. Like the first one I purchased, there's friction somewhere which is causing way too much tension on the yarn. Save yourself the time and purchase something different.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from stripped clamp I am also having issues with the screw of the clamp being 'stripped' out and wont stay clamped to anything. i am in the process of either making it work or just returning it. sigh.

by from I'm disappointed! I waited a bit after recieving my Yarn Swift and when I did finally set it up with the Ball Winder I bought with it it was such a hassle and a HUGE disappointment!! I've used this type of Swift at my local yarn store, so it is NOT operator error! The wooden threaded screw will not tighten down on the table tops. I tried 3or 4 tables too! It just tips over cuz the screw is like it is stripped or something.. I read most of the reviews before I ordered it, and was reassured only to be hugely disappointed. In the process of inquiring how to exchange it for one that works. Hopefully the 2nd one will work correctly! Micah

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Decent winder I receive my winder today and I'm surprised at how long and large the winder is. It's poorly construct because paper string was used to tie the sticks together. It will fall apart if it got wet. Other than that, it works beautifully. I bought it on sale so it's cheaper than the one I saw on knitpicks.com.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great tool! A must have. I got my swift about 20 years ago and love it! I really like that it is real wood, especially with all the cheap plastic stuff that is available. I am a spinner and use it for hand spun yarn, as well as commercial yarns. It is a must have, along with a ball winder, for winding a ball from a hank to use for knitting. I have heard that in Europe, some people put their yarn on the swift and knit right from the swift. It spins freely, so I could see that being possible.
