Rated 4 out of 5 by from Long lasting! I have had this exact swift for between 8-10 years now. I received it as a gift from someone who had purchased it from Joann's especially for me. I've used it a great deal over the years and it continues to work fabulously in conjunction with a hand-crank ball winder I got at the same time. It clamps securely to any table surface I've tried it on and holds the yarn securely as I wind. The only thing I don't like is that sometimes the wood makse a squeaking sound as I'm cranking. Perhaps some oil will fix that, but I haven't tried it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Stripped wood screw clamp While the upper swift part has functioned properly for the few years I've owned this, the wood screw at the base is now stripped. Knowing how fragile wood screw threads are, I was VERY, VERY careful with it. But, as others, if you tighten it enough to secure it to a table, the simple vibrations of the swift cause the wood screw threads to fail. No longer in posession of receipt, we'll be sawing off the lower portion and using a C-clamp.

Rated 0 out of 5 by from I'm Disappointed! I waited a bit after recieving my Yarn Swift and when I did finally set it up with the Ball Winder I bought with it it was such a hassle and a HUGE disappointment!! I've used this type of Swift at my local yarn store, so it is NOT operator error! The wooden threaded screw will not tighten down on the table tops. I tried 3or 4 tables too! It just tips over cuz the screw is like it is stripped or something.. I read most of the reviews before I ordered it, and was reassured only to be hugely disappointed. In the process of inquiring how to exchange it for one that works. Hopefully the 2nd one will work correctly! Micah

Rated 0 out of 5 by from Disappointing Product The swift never seated properly in the clamp and kept falling out. Then the wooden crosspieces started to split. It is completely useless now and I've only had it 4 months. This is not a case of wear and tear, I wound a total of only 10 balls of yarn with this device.

Rated 0 out of 5 by from Terrible Experience I was really looking forward to finally owning one of these. However, when I took it out of the box I discovered that the screw that holds it open could not screw in far enough to do it's job and it was therefore unusable. I could not get a response via email, no one answered the phone ( made MANY calls and weeks later I still don't know if it's been received and credited. Worst customer service EVER. And the produce was machined imprperly when I received it!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Lock down screw inoperable After reading the reviews, I thought this would be a good choice for an umbrella swift, as they can be more than 79.00 at other on-line places. However, upon setting up the swift, the lock-down screw does not tighten enough to even hold the weight of the swift itself open, let alone with yarn on the swift. Therefore, I've been unable to use it. I will be sending it back for a refund.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from fragile Loved it on the first use, but the threads on the sliding piece stripped on the second use and made it impossible to use. Will be sending it back for replacement.
