Description
SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
  • 1 1/4 yd fabric for back & center circle
  • 1 1/4 yd fleece
  • 1/2 yd each, terry cloth, fleece, satin, bumpy fleece, velour : 5 total
  • 1/2 yd each, 3 cotton prints
  • 5 felt squares
  • 1 yd satin ruffle
  • 2/3 yd snap tape
  • Fat Quarter: for prairie points
  • 12" lengths 1" ribbon: 2
  • 12" lengths ribbon: 6 assorted colors & widths
  • 3" Velcro® brand hook-&-loop fastener
  • 18" paper, tissue or newspaper
  • Measuring tape
  • Scissors
DIRECTIONS: 1/2" seam allowances

1. To make pattern, use 18" square of paper, tissue or newspaper. Fold it diagonally, then diagonally again from 1 point. Measure from point 18" across bottom to form an arc. Cut the arc. Place resulting pie-shaped piece on another paper & add a 1/2" seam allowance on all 3 sides to form the 15"x19 1/2" pattern.

2. Cut 8 pie-shaped pieces from textured fabric.

3. Embellish individual cotton pieces with ribbon-covered snap tape, Velcro® flowers and ruffle.

4. Seam 4 pie pieces & 4 pie pieces to form 2 semicircles. Join the semicircles, leaving 5" in the center open.

5. Add the ribbon loops, ruffle, prairie points & felt circles to bottom.

6. Cut a 37" piece of backing fabric and fleece.

7. Sandwich the fleece with the backing right side up and the mat right side down.

8. Seam entire outside edge, trim, turn & stitch opening. textural play mat 10. Cut a 7" circle of backing fabric, press under seam allowance, to play mat and stitch.
