Rated 4 out of 5 by from This machine does work! I've been knitting on these machines for over 20 years and have made many beautiful items on them. I see a lot of people have had problems so here is some advice. You do need a table to clamp it to. You MUST make sure you have plenty of yarn loose and free to knit each row. Center pull skeins work best. Start out with Caron Simply Soft yarn. It glides thru the machine. Later you'll bee using all knids of yarn. Do watch the videos and work thru each project in the book in order. I know you can't wait to make that cabled cardigan but trust me on this. Each project will teach a new skill and you'll have the satisfaction of having completed projects to keep you going.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fabulous machine husband purchased the deluxe while expecting our baby girl in 2001 I had to take it easy and this kept me sitting and not standing. I learned to use the machine I am not a hand knitter nor ever was a machine knitter at first it was difficult but I kept practicing and got the hand of it Ijust love the results I get, after 4yrs of making afghan baby blanket & sweaters I'm into making graph type afgans like Pictures of characters and sports logos. I love this machine. it takes practice. I could knit upto 100 row with out dropping a stitch and if you take the time and try this machine it gives great results in no time faster tham hand knitting. I love this Machine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome Machine I have owned this machine for 3 days now and have already made a fabulous shawl for my mother-in-law, a long, long elf hat with 8 color changes, and several practice squares. Be especially observant of the rule to keep tension on the yarn at the beginning of every row. I had some problems with dropped stitches at first, but I figured out that it was in the weights. If you use two rods in each "hem-tube", they flex at the center and cause too much weight at the ends and not enough in the center. I had my husband cut one of the rods in half, anf I have 1 1/2 weight rods in each tube of the hem. I have not dropped a stitch since I did that. This machine is incredible!!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A great MANUAL machine They didn't even have video instructions when I bought mine. I carefully read the manuals, which, by the way consists of 6 books, and learned how to use it. I didn't have the right kind of table initially either, so I used my initiative and clamped it to my ironing board. I now live in Utah, and had to have my ex-husband send it to me, so I am missing all my patterns, one clamp (I am using a C-clamp to old one end to the table) and would like to find pattern books, and a replacement clamp, not to mention an extension bed and the new intarsia piece that I see here. To sum up, this machine works very well, but only as well as the operator. I still love it!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Slow Down! After reading the reviews from others, I had to add mine. It seems that many of the negative reviews are from people who have "real" knitting machines & expect this to be as fast & easy. In a nutshell, it ain't so. The main problem people have with this is jamming & dropped stitches. Both of these are tension problems. This machine is VERY picky about tension, but I just completed 65 skinny scarves for my co-workers in 4 days using eyelash yarn. (Bernat Boa) Beat that! I've never had any of the pieces break, and I use the machine quite a bit, but then, I try to be gentle with it. I've owned The Ultimate Sweater Machine for many years and will definitely be buying the upgrade package for it.

Rated 0 out of 5 by from Truth in Advertising The manufacturer's advertising and product literature for this machine is misleading at best. For example, these statements from their website page for the Ultimate Sweater Machine: "Learn today, make it tonight, wear it tomorrow" "Learn to use in an evening, make a sweater or afghan in just two evenings" Hah! That certainly is not what happened for me! I've read the positive reviews on this site that say it takes time to learn how to use this machine; how can the manufacturer make the above claims then? I think you need to consider that before making the decision to purchase this product - where there's one misleading statement there will most likely be others.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not the best investment. I saw someone demonstraing the "ULIMATE" sweater machine in my local craft store and I thought that it would be a remarkable piece of equipmant to own. When I got it home< I soon discovered that it was an "ULTIMATE" piece of JUNK!!! The stitiches kept dropping, the carriage continuosly jammed and the entire thing kept falling off the table. I didn't want to pay the asking price but my husband bought it for me for christmas 2005. IT WASN'T WORTH IT!!! It's a great idea if you can get it to work, but it's just too costly and too time consuming for somthing that in my opinion doesn't give the results tha you would expect.

Rated 0 out of 5 by from "Not Worth Your Time and Trouble" I have to say this product was nothing but a bad experience. I had really looked forward to getting this machine and knitting all kinds of wonderful things. I thought I could do a lot with it but I never got past the most basic use of the machine, and even that was an uphill batlle all the way. Now, I'm not stupid when it comes to crafts or machines and I do follow the instructions to the letter, even contacted the manufacturer for help but still the machine gave me such a fight on every little thing. Maybe some folks can get this thing to work easily but I sure couldn't! I had to give up. The whole thing was just so disappointing.
