Vertical Ombre Tie Dye Tote

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • White canvas tote bag
  • Two colors from Tulip Tie Dye Kit
  • Latex gloves
  • Plastic table covering
  • Water
  • Iron (optional)

DIRECTIONS:

1.Lay plastic table covering on work surface

2.Submerge tote bag in water, ring off excess water and lay flat on work surface smoothing out all of the wrinkles with fingers

3.Put on gloves, mix one of the colors of dye per manufacture’s instructions

4.Starting from the left side of the bag carefully squirt dye onto 1/8th vertical side portion of bag

5.Discard ½ of the dye from the container and fill back up with water.

6.Squirt a second stripe of dye on 1/8th of the bag next to the first line

7.Discard ½ of the dye from the container and fill back up with water

8.Squirt a third stripe of dye on 1/8th of the bag next to the second line

9.Discard dye

10.Mix second color of dye per manufacture’s instructions

11.Repeat steps 4-8 starting from right side of the bag. There should be a small portion of white in the middle of bag

12.Gently wrap the tote bag with the plastic table covering and let sit for 6-8 hours

13.Hand rinse with cold water until the water runs clear and lay flat to dry

14.After drying, iron if needed

 

Painted Tie Dye Tote

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • White canvas tote bag
  • 4-5 colors of tie dye
  • 4-5 small containers
  • Latex gloves
  • Plastic table covering
  • Water
  • Foam paint brushes
  • A mixture of different sized paint brushes
  • Iron

DIRECTIONS:

1.Lay plastic table covering on work surface

2.Submerge tote bag in water, ring off excess water and lay flat on work surface smoothing out all of the wrinkles with fingers

3.Put on gloves, mix all of the colors of dye per manufacture’s instructions and pour each color into their own small container

4.For base coat: Using foam brushes paint different portions of the tote bag desired colors

5.Let sit for an hour then hand rinse with cold water until the water runs clear and lay flat to dry

6.Once bag is completely dry place back on work surface. Using different colors of mixed dyes and various size brushes add desired strokes and lines over base coat until desired look is reached (Tip: Let bag dry between coats to keep the colors from running together)

7.When done painting, gently wrap the tote bag with the plastic table covering and let sit for 6-8 hours

8.Hand rinse with cold water until the water runs clear and lay flat to dry.

9.After drying,  iron if needed

 

Striped Fabric Tote

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • White canvas tote bag
  • Tulip Color Shot Instant Fabric Color
  • Latex gloves
  • Plastic table covering
  • Masking tape
  • Wax paper

DIRECTIONS:

1.Lay plastic table covering on work surface

2.Using masking tape, tape horizontal lines onto tote bag

3.Cover tote straps with wax paper and secure with masking tape

4.Put on gloves. Starting from top of bag begin spraying paint using side to side sweeping motions and work down the bag.  To achieve ombre look: when working way down the bag hold paint can farther and use quicker sweeping motions to lighten the paint

5.Allow at least 30 minutes to dry before removing the tape
