  • Lion Brand® Wool-Ease® Tonal, 3 balls: Night Sky (A)
  • Lion Brand® Wool-Ease® Tonal, 1 ball each: Amethyst (B), Lavender (C), Forest (D), Fern (E), Royal Blue (F), Lapis (G), Denim (H), Burnt Orange (I), Plum (J), Raspberry (K) or colors of choice
  • Lion Brand® knitting needles size 10.5 (6.5 mm)
  • Lion Brand® large-eyed blunt needle

    • SIZE
    • About 49" x 49-1/2" (124.5 x 125.5 cm)

    • GAUGE:
    • 12 sts + 24 rows = about 4" (10 cm) in Garter st (k every row).
    • BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE.

    • STITCH EXPLANATION:
    • kfb (knit in front and back) Knit next st without removing it from left needle, then knit through back of same st – 1 st increased.

    • DIRECTIONS:

    • Four Rectangles are worked separately, then sewn together following a diagram to make the Afghan.
    • Each of the Rectangles is worked in sections for a patchwork look.

    • RECTANGLE I
    • Section I
    • With K, cast on 22 sts.
    • Work in Garter st (k every row) until piece measures about 14" (35.5 cm) from beg.
    • Bind off.

    • Section II
    • Section II Stripe Sequence: *Work 4 rows with D, 4 rows with E; rep from * for Section II Stripe Sequence.
    • With D, pick up and k42 sts evenly spaced along one long side edge of Section I.
    • Knit 3 rows.
    • Change to E.
    • Continue in Garter st, continuing to change yarn color following stripe sequence until Section II measures about 12" (30.5 cm).
    • Bind off.

    • Section III
    • Section III Stripe Sequence: *Work 2 rows with I, 2 rows with A; rep from * for Section III Stripe Sequence.

    • With I, pick up and k57 sts evenly spaced along cast-on edge of Section I and side edge of Section II.
    • Knit 1 row.
    • Change to A.
    • Continue in Garter st, continuing to change yarn color following stripe sequence until Section III measures about 11-1/2" (29 cm).
    • Bind off.

    • Section IV
    • Section IV Stripe Sequence: *Work 2 rows with A, 2 rows with F, 2 rows with G; rep from * for Section IV Stripe Sequence.

    • With A, pick up and k76 sts evenly spaced along rem side edge of Section I and side edge of Section III.
    • Knit 1 row.
    • Change to F.
    • Continue in Garter st, continuing to change yarn color following stripe sequence until Section IV measures about 6-1/2 (16.5 cm).
    • Bind off.

    • RECTANGLE II
    • Section I
    • Section I Stripe Sequence: *Work 2 rows with A, 2 rows with F; rep from * for Section I Stripe Sequence.

    • With A, cast on 3 sts.
    • Knit 1 row.
    • Change to F.
    • Increase Row (RS): K1, kfb, k to end of row – 4 sts.
    • Next Row: Knit.
    • Rep last 2 rows and continue to change color following stripe sequence, until you have 21 sts, end with a WS row as the last row you work.
    • Decrease Row (RS): K1, k2tog, k to end of row – 20 sts.
    • Next Row: Knit.
    • Rep last 2 rows and continue to change color following stripe sequence until 3 sts rem.
    • Bind off.

    • From RS with F, beg at Row 1 of Section I, pick up and k27 sts evenly spaced along short diagonal edge of Section I.
    • Knit 1 row.
    • Decrease Row (RS): K1, k2tog, k to end of row – 26 sts.
    • Next Row: Knit.
    • Change to G.
    • Rep last 2 rows and continue to change color following stripe sequence until 3 sts rem.

    • FINISHING:
    • Following diagram, sew long sides of Rectangles together to make Afghan.
    • Weave in ends.
