Tote A: Simplicity Pattern 1533

Tote B: 12" x 15" lined tote with pocket

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • 2/3 yd. home decor fabric
  • 2/3 yd coordinating home decor fabric (lining)
  • Basic sewing supplies
  • Iron & pressing surface

DIRECTIONS:

  1. 1/2" seam allowance
  2. Cut two pieces outside and two pieces lining 17" x 18".
  3. Cut a 1-1/2" square from each bottom corner.
  4. Cut two 4"” x 21" lining for straps.
  5. Cut 8" x 13" lining for pocket.
  6. RST, fold pocket in half (6-1/2" x 8").
  7. Seam 3 sides, leaving a 2" opening at bottom.
  8. Turn and press.
  9. Center pocket 5" from top on one bag front.
  10. Topstitch 3 sides forming pocket.
  11. RST, sew sides and bottom of tote front.
  12. Fold bottom corners together, matching seams and stitch.
  13. Repeat with lining leaving a 4" opening for turning.
  14. Press each strap piece in half.
  15. Open and fold edges to center. Press to 1" x 21".
  16. Topstitch each edge.
  17. Find center of tote top; measure 3" out on each side; mark.
  18. Baste handles over mark.
  19. RST, sew tote front to lining at top edge.
  20. Turn RS out and press.
  21. Top stitch top edge.
  22. Slip stitch lining opening.

 

Tote C: 16" X 19" Tote with contrasting straps

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • 3/4 yd. home decor fabric
  • 2 yd coordinating home decor fabric (lining & straps)
  • Basic sewing supplies
  • Iron & pressing surface

DIRECTIONS:

  1. 1/2" seam allowance
  2. Cut two pieces outside and two pieces lining 21" x 22".
  3. Cut a 2" square from each bottom corner.
  4. Cut two 4" x 65" lining for straps.
  5. Fold straps in half and press.
  6. Open and fold edges to center and press (1" x 65").
  7. Topstitch both edges of straps.
  8. Mark a line on both fronts 6" from side edge stopping 2" from top.
  9. Stich straps at mark stopping 2" from top.
  10. With RST, stitch sides and bottom of tote.
  11. Fold bottom corners together matching seams and stitch.
  12. Repeat with lining, leaving a 4" opening for turning at bottom.
  13. RST, sew tote front to lining at top edge.
  14. Turn and press.
  15. Edgestitch top edge including handles.
  16. Slipstitch opening.
