Whether you are new to needle crafts, or a seasoned pro, these projects are great for some stitching fun. This kit uses a stitch technique called "candle-wicking" which is traditionally white work embroidery on an unbleached fabric in this case … unbleached linen. For each project a 12" x 12" piece of linen is included which has a printed pattern line, so you know exactly where to stitch. The pearle cotton thread, a #18 Chenille needel, and detailed instructions to complete the kit are also included.
To make a colonial knot, wrap the thread around the needle with the tail of the thread towards the eye of the needle. Then bring the thread around the tip of the needle, making a figure 8 motion as you wrap. Insert the needle into the fabric near your starting point, and pull the thread through the knot, holding the tail and letting it slide through your fingers as you pull – this guides the thread tail through the knot and prevents the thread from knotting back on itself.
And there are so many creative ways to show off your completed projects. Candlewicking stitches were very popular in colonial America for bed coverings and were originally made with actual un-waxed candle wicks. Today these kits are now available for you to bring the old into the new!
