Description

No-Sew Tutu

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Tulle, 2½ yds each: 3 colors
  • 10 yds 1/2" sheer ribbon
  • 1 pkg 1/2" elastic
  • Scissors or rotary cutter & mat
  • Basic sewing supplies
  • Ruler

DIRECTIONS:
WOF = Width of fabric.

1. Measure waist size and cut elastic to that measurement. Overlap ends and sew or tie together forming a circle.
2. Cut tulle into 4" and 6" strips by WOF. Cut each piece in half or vary the length for more dimension.
3. Layer 2 strips, fold in half; loop the center point around the waistband and pull ends through to make a knot.
4. Continue to tie knots of tulle around elastic. Do not pull too tight or elastic will curl. Keep knots to one side of elastic. 30 to 40 knots will fill the elastic.
5. Cut ribbon into 20" and 24" lengths.
6. Fold these in half and tie around elastic as done with tulle. Also ribbon can be knotted through the front of the knots formed by the tulle.

Low-Sew Tutu

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • 3 yds sparkle mesh
  • 3 yds of tulle
  • Sewing machine
  • 2 yds 1½" ribbon
  • Basic sewing supplies
  • Scissors or rotary cutter & mat
  • Ruler

DIRECTIONS:
WOF = Width of fabric.

1. Measure waist size. Center and mark waist measurement onto ribbon, leaving ends for ties.
2. From each color: cut 12", 14", 20", 24", 28" long strips by the WOF.
3. Fold each strip in half lengthwise.
4. Layer the longest on the bottom and shortest on the top, alternating two colors & matching folded edges.
5. Pin strips together, run a basting seam along folded edge.
6. Gather tulle to match waist measurement. Pin to ribbon, matching center and end marks.
7. Sew tulle to ribbon through all thicknesses. Fold ribbon over the top of the gathering and sew again, encasing the gathering in the ribbon. Use extra ribbon length for ties.
