Clothes designed for 18" (45.5 cm) doll

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Red Heard® Soft®: One ball each:
    • Guacamole (A)
    • Light Grey Heather (B)

  • Crochet Hooks: 5.5 mm [US I-9], 4.0mm [US G-6]
  • Three 5/8" (15.9 mm) buttons
  • Sewing needle
  • Yarn needle
  • Fiberfill stuffing
  • Stitch markers
  • Scissors
  • Tape measure

DIRECTIONS:

GAUGE: With 5.5 mm [US I-9] hook, 12 sc = 4" (10 cm); 15 rows sc = 4" (10 cm). CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size hook to obtain the gauge.
Coat measures: 7" (18 cm) wide x 9-1/2" (24 cm) long
Ear Flap Hat measures: 12" (30.5 cm) in diameter
Dog measures: 8" (20.5 cm) high x 12" (51 cm) long

SPECIAL STITCHES:
sc2tog = [draw up a loop in next st] twice, yarn over and draw through all 3 loops on hook.
sc3tog = [draw up a loop in next st] 3 times, yarn over and draw through all 4 loops on hook.

NOTES:

1. Unless otherwise noted, always work under both loops of the stitch in the row below.
2. For sections worked in rounds, place marker for beginning of round and move marker up as each round is completed.
3. To change color, work last stitch of old color to last yarn over. Yarn over with new color and draw through all loops on hook to complete stitch. Proceed with new color.

COAT
Using 5.5 mm [US I-9] hook with A, ch 39.
Row 1 (Wrong side): Sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across; turn””38 sc.
Rows 2-19: Ch 1, sc in each sc across; turn.

Right Front
Row 20 (Right side): Ch 1, sc in next 8 sc; turn””8 sc.
Rows 21-25: Ch 1 sc in each sc across; turn.
Row 26: Ch 1, sc2tog, sc in next 6 sc; turn””7 sc.
Row 27: Ch 1, sc in next 5 sc, sc2tog; turn””6 sc.
Row 28: Ch 1, sc2tog, sc in next 4 sc; turn””5 sc.
Row 29: Ch 1, sc in next 3 sc, sc2tog; turn””4 sc.
Rows 30-32: Ch 1, sc in each sc across; turn. At end of Row 32, fasten off, leaving a long tail for seaming later to Back.

Left Front
Using 5.5 mm [US I-9] hook, join A to beginning of Row 19.
Rows 20-32: Repeat Rows 21-32 of Right Front.

Back
Skip first 2 sc of unworked middle section of Coat. Using 5.5 mm [US I-9] hook, join A to next sc of Row 19.
Row 20: Ch 1, sc in next 18 sc, leave last two sc unworked; turn””18 sc.
Rows 21-29: Ch 1, sc in each sc across; turn. At end of Row 29, fasten off.

Assembly
Using long tails, sew Left Front to first 4 sc of Back and sew Right Front to last 4 sc of Back. Weave in all ends.

Collar
Using 4.0 mm [US G-6] hook with A, join yarn to Right side of Row 26 of Right Front.
Row 1: Ch 1, work 1 sc in the side of each Row of Rows 26-32 of Right Front, work 10 sc across Back, work 1 sc in the side of each Row of Rows 32-26 of Left Front; turn””24 sc.
Row 2: Ch 1, sc in first sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 20 sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in last sc; turn””26 sc.
Row 3: Ch 1, sc in first sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 10 sc, [2 sc in next sc] twice, sc in next 10 sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in last sc; turn””30 sc.
Row 4: Ch 1, sc in first sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 26 sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in last sc; turn””32 sc.
Row 5: Ch 1, sc in first sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in next 13 sc, [2 sc in next sc] twice, sc in next 13 sc, 2 sc in next sc, sc in last sc; turn””36 sc.

Left Placket
Using 5.5 mm [US I-9] hook with A, join yarn to Wrong side of Row 1 on left edge of Coat.
Row 1: Ch 1, work 1 sc in the side of each Row of Rows 1-25 of Coat; turn””25 sc.
Rows 2-4: Ch 1, sc in each sc across; turn. At end of Row 4, fasten off; weave in ends.

Right Placket
Using 5.5 mm [US I-9] hook with A, join yarn to Wrong side of Row 25 on right edge of Coat.
Row 1: Ch 1, work 1 sc in the side of each Row of Rows 25-1 of Coat; turn””25 sc.
Row 2: Ch 1, sc in each sc across; turn.
Row 3 (Buttonholes): Ch 1, sc in next 2 sc, ch 2, skip 1 sc, sc in next 9 sc, ch 2, skip 1 sc, sc in next 9 sc, ch 2, skip 1 sc, sc in next 2 sc; turn””22 sc, three ch-2 spaces.
Row 4: Ch 1, sc in each sc and ch-2 space across””25 sc. Fasten off; weave in ends. Using thread, sew Buttons to Left Placket, making sure they line up with Buttonholes in Right Placket.

Arm (Make 2)
Using 5.5 mm [US I-9] hook with A, join yarn to 2nd unworked sc of armpit on Right side of Row 19 of Coat.
Round 1: Ch 1, sc in same sc; work 23 sc evenly around sides of armhole; sc in last unworked sc of armpit; slip st in first sc to join; turn””25 sc.
Round 2: Ch 1, sc in each sc around; slip st in first sc to join; turn.
Round 3: Ch 1, sc in first sc, sc2tog, sc in next 19 sc, sc2tog, sc in last sc; slip st in first sc to join; turn””23 sc.
Rounds 4-5: Ch 1, sc in each sc around; slip st in first sc to join; turn.
Round 6: Ch 1, sc in first sc, sc2tog, sc in next 17 sc, sc2tog, sc in last sc; slip st in first sc to join; turn””21 sc.
Rounds 7-8: Ch 1, sc in each sc around; slip st in first sc to join; turn.

Round 3: Ch 1, [sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc] 6 times; slip st in first sc to join; turn””18 sc.
Round 4: Ch 1, [sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc] 6 times; slip st in first sc to join; turn””24 sc.

With Right side facing, skip first 5 sc of Round 14 of Ear Flap Hat. Using 5.5 mm [US I-9] hook, join C in next sc.
Row 1 (Right side): Ch 1, sc in same sc and next 7 sc; turn””8 sc.
Row 2: Ch 1, sc2tog, sc in next 6 sc; turn””7 sc.
Row 3: Ch 1, sc2tog, sc in next 5 sc; turn””6 sc.
Row 4: Ch 1, sc2tog, sc in next 4 sc; turn””5 sc.
Row 5: Ch 1, sc2tog, sc in next 3 sc; turn””4 sc.
Row 6: Ch 1, sc2tog, sc in next 2 sc; turn””3 sc.
Row 7: Ch 1, sc2tog, sc in next sc; turn””2 sc.

Left Ear Flap
With Right side facing, skip next 10 sc of Round 14 of Ear Flap Hat. Using 5.5 mm [US I-9] hook, join C in next sc.
Rows 1-8: Repeat Rows 1-8 of Right Ear Flap.

Hat Border
With Right side facing and using 5.5 mm [US I-9] hook, join A to first sc of Round 14 of Ear Flap Hat.
Round 1: Ch 1, sc in next 5 sc, work 1 sc in the side of each Row of Rows 1-8 of Right Ear Flap, ch 15, slip st in 2nd ch from hook and next 13 chs, work 1 sc the side of each Row of Rows 8-1 of Right Ear Flap, sc in next 10 sc, work 1 sc in the side of each Row of Rows 1-8 of Left Ear Flap, ch 15, slip st in 2nd ch from hook and next 13 chs, work 1 sc the side of each Row of Rows 8-1 of Left Ear Flap, sc in last 5 sc; slip st in first sc to join””52 sc. Gauge is not critical for this item. Work tightly so stuffing does not show through stitches.

Ears (Make 2)

Collar

Leash
Using 4.0 mm [US G-6] hook with E, join yarn to Collar; ch 50.
Row 1: Slip st in 11th ch from hook and remaining 39 chs””10 ch, 40 slip sts. Fasten off; weave in ends.
