  1. Cut 13" lengths of narrow red satin ribbon. Pin side-by-side vertically along the top and bottom edge of interfacing with 1/2" overhanging at the top and bottom of the interfacing. Trim excess interfacing with the fusible side up.
  2. Cut 19" lengths of green grosgrain ribbon. Place them at a right angle to the vertically pinned ribbons, and overhanging the edges of the place mat. Pin in place along the right side of the place mat.
  3. Weave the unpinned ribbon ends alternately under and over the vertical ribbons. Pin in place.
  4. Iron ribbons to fuse in place following manufacturer's directions. Fold under ends and glue in place on backside of the mat.
  5. Cut 19" lengths of dot ribbon. Center and weave on top of green, every other strip. Glue ends in place on back.
  6. For the fabric backing, turn under 1/2" and iron. Pin and sew to woven ribbons.
