If you do not want the inside seams showing, make the bag and the lining in two parts, leaving the bottom seam open about 3 inches to turn later. Sew the bag top and the lining top together right sides together. Pull it right side out thru the hole in the bottom of the lining. Hand sew the hole shut.
I had a fun time making this tote and I love it except for one thing. I really wish the seams for the lining were on the inside so you couldnt see them when you look in the bag. Anyone have any ideas to make that happen? The only way I can figure is to make the lining seperate then put in bag.
After making my first one earlier this summer, I decided to set out to make several and use as Christmas gifts. I've made 8 so far. Its been a lot of fun making them. Quilting has been a pleasant way to relax during my lunch break.
I love finding new projects online and was eager to get started on this one. It makes a lovely bag and I am making some for gifts for my sisters.
I love the pattern. When I went to purchase the fabric, they were out already!!! All summer I was not able to get it. So I created my own version of purses. I added extra length to the handles, pockets inside, and added extra width to the band. Great sewing project.
I too had some problems with the band not fully wrapping around. Would make it a whole inch wider next time to accommodate this problem. I added some pockets on the inside and lengthened the straps in order to be able to throw it over my shoulder. All in all a fun project and I plan to make more for gifts!
I too made this bag and it came out perfect. I did not have any problem with the band fabric folding over to back. I was able to hem under 1/4 inch. I stitched in the ditch on front caught in back worked like a charm.
this was a fast and fun bag to make. the top band did not fully wrap down to meet on the inside, so my knotted strip is placed higher. still very cute. the quilting directions were easy to follow and add to the stability of the bag. the bag does stand up on it's own just like the photo. I would make the handles longer next time. this is really just to carry by hand, not over shoulder. would make a great grocery bag with longer handles. I really LOVE the Stonehill fabric Zest. it is beautiful color wise and the feel is wonderful.
