SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • 3/4 yd fleece in at least two colors per pillow
  • Fabric scissors
  • Clear plastic ruler
  • Pillow forms (12"x 12" and 16"x 16")

DIRECTIONS:

    For 12"x 12" finished pillow:
  1. Cut one piece of fleece 12"x 20". Fold fleece in half, matching the 12" sides. Starting at the folded edge, cut lines 6" long and 1" apart so that you have twelve 1" stripes.
  2. From the other color of fabric, cut twelve stripes of fleece 1"x 20".
  3. Cut a 20"x 20" piece of fleece for the back of the pillow. Cut out a 4"x 4" square from each corner. Cut 1" wide fringes, 4" long around all four sides. There should be twelve on each side.
  4. Lay the 12"x 20" piece flat on the table. Using the 1"x 20" stripes, weave between the slits in the first piece, alternating the pattern of each row. Make sure rows are close together. About twelve stripes should fit in this space. Adjust stripes so that about 4" hangs off each side.
  5. Line up the woven front with the back piece. Match and tie fringe on the sides using a double knot.
  6. Once sides are knotted, go back and cut apart the fringe for the top piece. Match and tie in a double knot.
  7. Before tying the final side, insert pillow form.

    For 16"x 16" finished pillow:
  1. Cut one piece of fleece 16"x 24". Fold fleece in half, matching the 16" sides. Starting at the folded edge, cut lines 8" long and 1" apart so that you have sixteen 1" stripes.
  2. From the other color of fabric, cut sixteen stripes of fleece 1"x 24".
  3. Cut a 24"x 24" piece of fleece for the back of the pillow. Cut out a 4"x 4" square from each corner. Cut 1" wide fringes, 4" long around all four sides. There should be sixteen on each side.
  4. Lay the 16"x 24" piece flat on the table. Using the 1"x 24" stripes, weave between the slits in the first piece, alternating the pattern of each row. Make sure rows are close together. About sixteen stripes should fit in this space. Adjust stripes so that about 4" hangs off each side.
  5. Line up the woven front with the back piece. Match and tie fringe on the sides using a double knot.
