SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

• Lion Brand 24/7 COTTON Bay Leaf 3 balls
• Lion Brand crochet hook size K-10.5 (6.5 mm)
• Lion Brand crochet hook size G-6 (4 mm)
• Lion Brand large-eyed blunt needle


• Materials Note:
• Materials are sufficient to make one Towel and two Washcloths.


• SIZE:
• Hand Towel About 15"x 25" (38 x 63.5 cm)
• Washcloth About 6"x 6" (15 x 15 cm)


• GAUGE:
• 15 sts + 20 rows = about 4 in. (10 cm) over WC pattern with larger hook.
• 15 sts + 12 rows = about 4 in. (10 cm) over Grit St pattern with smaller hook
• BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE.

DIRECTIONS:
STITCH EXPLANATION:
WC (Waistcoat Stitch - worked in rows with WS of previous row sts facing) Insert hook under the next inverted "V" between next 2 sts, yarn over and draw up a loop, yarn over and draw through both loops on hook.
Note: This waistcoat stitch is worked like a single crochet EXCEPT that the hook is inserted in the inverted "V" between sts instead of under the top 2 loops of a st.

PATTERN STITCHES:
Grit Stitch
Row 1: Ch 1, turn, dc in first st, * sk next st, (sc, dc) in next st; rep from * to last st, sk next st, sc in beg ch-1.
Rep Row 1 for Grit St pattern.

Waistcoat Stitch
Row 1: Ch 1, turn, WC in each inverted "V" across, sc in beg ch-1.
Rep Row 1 for WC pattern.

NOTES:
Hand Towel is worked back and forth in rows, in sections of WC pattern and Grit St pattern. WC pattern sections are worked with larger hook. Grit St pattern sections are worked with smaller hook. Extra rows are worked along short edges of Towel for top and bottom edges. Trim is worked around outside edge of Towel.
Washcloth is worked back and forth in rows of Grit St pattern. Trim is worked around outside edge of Washcloth.

HAND TOWEL:
With larger hook, ch 79.

Row 1: Working in back loops only, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across - you will have 78 sc and a beg ch-1 in this row.
Rows 2-9: Work in WC pattern for 8 rows.

Change to smaller hook.
Rows 10 and 11: Work in Grit St pattern for 2 rows.

Change to larger hook.
Row 12: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across, sc in beg ch-1.
Rows 13-21: Work in WC pattern for 9 rows.

Change to smaller hook
Rows 22-35: Work in Grit St pattern for 14 rows.

Change to larger hook.
Row 36: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across, sc in beg ch-1.
Rows 37-45: Work in WC pattern for 9 rows.

Change to smaller hook.
Rows 46 and 47: Work in Grit St pattern for 2 rows.

Change to larger hook.
Row 48: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across, sc in beg ch-1.
Rows 49-56: Work in WC pattern for 8 rows.
Do not fasten off.

Top Edge
Row 1: Ch 1, do not turn, work sc in end of each row along short top edge - you will have 56 sc in this row.
Rows 2-9: Work in WC pattern for 8 rows.
Fasten off.

Lower Edge
Join yarn with sl st in corner of lower edge.
Row 1: Ch 1, sc in end of each row along edge - 56 sc.
Rows 2-9: Work in WC pattern for 8 rows.
Do not fasten off.

Trim
Rnd 1: Ch 1, working around outside edge of piece, work an sc in end of each row and in each ch at base of Row 1 sts, WC in each WC, and 3 sc in each corner around; join with sl st in first st. Note: To work WC in WC when RS of previous row sts are facing you, insert the hook between the two leaning vertical strands that form a "V" on the front of the st then complete the st as if making a single crochet (sc).
Fasten off.

WASHCLOTH:
With smaller hook, ch 22.
Row 1: Dc in 2nd ch from hook, * sk next st, (sc, dc) in next st; rep from * to last 2 ch, sk next ch, sc in last ch - beg ch-1 and 1 dc at beg of row, 9 (sc, dc) groups and 1 sc at end of row.
Rows 2-18: Work in Grit St pattern for 17 more rows.
Do not fasten off.

Trim
Change to larger hook.
Rnd 1: Ch 1, sc evenly spaced all the way around outside edge of piece, working 3 sc in each corner; join with sl st in first st.
Fasten off.

FINISHING:
Weave in ends.
