DIRECTIONS:

    TASSELS
  1. With a sharp knife, carefully cut off sides of the styrofoam ball; shaping it into a domed cylinder - see photo.
  2. Roll cylinder on a flat, hard surface to smooth out.
  3. Wrap yarn 40 times around a 5"x 11" piece of heavy cardboard.
  4. Cut 3 pieces of yarn 16" long for hanger.
  5. Slip one piece of yarn under top side of yarn on the cardboard.
  6. Pull together and tightly tie a knot.
  7. Place the other 2 pieces of yarn over knot and tie a knot over the top (these will be the braid hanging the tassel).
  8. Loosely tie an overhand knot in these 6 pieces to keep them separate and out of the way.
  9. Center the hanger over one end of the cylinder, pin to hold in place.
  10. Distribute yarn evenly around the cylinder.
  11. Cut a 20" piece of yarn and tightly tie around yarn under the cylinder.
  12. Pull yarn strands to snug down yarn around cylinder.
  13. Finger comb yarn strands and cut off evenly at the bottom.
  14. Wrap a piece of yarn 4 or 5 times around the center of the cylinder and tie then tuck ends under.
  15. Remove pin and braid the 6 top strands into a 6" braid (or desired length).
  16. Sew across top ends to secure.
