DIRECTIONS:
- This project creates one abstract clay painting.
- Choose a design from the GET PATTERNS tab above or create your own.
- To offer this project to young crafters as a sensory experience, combine the buttons, beads, sequins and pom-poms into different shallow bowls based on their color family.
- If creating a new design, encourage little ones to make handprints and/or finger prints for a nice keepsake.
- If using the templates, print the design and use scissors to cut out the shapes individually.
- Kneed clay to soften and mix colors as desired.
- Roll out clay to a 1/4" thickness.
- Cut clay shapes with scissors or cookie cutters and press onto canvas.
- Before the clay dries, add colorful buttons, beads, sequins and poms by pushing them deep into the clay.
- Stamp patterns using straws, mini cookie cutters and toothpicks.
- Add rolled coils of clay for more depth and extra interest.
- Let the clay piece dry according to the instructions on the Crayola® Model Magic package.
JOANN HACKS:
- Mix darker Model Magic colors with ample amounts of white to create a softer palette.
- Coloring the clay with markers also changes the color of Model Magic.
- The provided designs are only suggestions. Choose your own colors and shapes to design your own clay painting.
- Keep leftover clay in an airtight container or bag to keep it soft and pliable.
