Acorn and Leaf Garland
SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
- Boye/MD Crochet Hook, Size C (2.75mm)
- Boye/MD Crochet Hook, Size G (4.25mm)
- #4 worsted weight acrylic yarn
- Approximately 30 yds each. Colors: A (light brown), B (dark brown), C (orange), D (yellow) and E (green)
- Approximately 10 yds Color F (off-white)
- Split-ring stitch marker
- Fiberfill
- Tapestry needle
- Tape measure
- Scissors
- SIZE
- Approximately 48" long
- GAUGE
- 16 sts x 20 rows = 4" in sc on size G (4.25 mm) hook
- Gauge is not critical for this project.
- SPECIAL STITCHES
- Single Crochet 2 Together (sc2tog): (Insert hook into next stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop) two times, yarn over and pull through all 3 loops on hook.
- Acorn (Make 7):
- Acorn Bottom:
- With Color A and size G hook, ch 2.
- Rnd 1: 5 sc in 2nd ch from hook—5 sc. Do not join; place marker in first st of rnd and move it up as the piece progresses.
- Rnd 2: 2 sc in each st around—10 sc.
- Rnd 3: (Sc in next st, 2 sc in next sc) around—15 sc.
- Rnds 4-6: Sc in each st around.
- Rnd 7: (Sc in next 3 sc, sc2tog) around, join with slip st to first sc—12 sc.
- Fasten off. Weave in ends.
- Acorn Cap:
- With color B and size G hook, ch 2 leaving a 12" tail.
- Rnds 1-3: Work as for Acorn Bottom—15 sc.
- Rnd 4: (Sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around—20 sc.
- Rnd 5: (Sc in next 2 sc, sc2tog) around, join with slip st to first sc—15 sc.
- Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.
- Acorn Stem:
- With size G hook and 12" tail inside of cap, pull up loop to RS through center hole; pull remainder of tail to RS through a nearby hole; insert hook in loop, ch 4. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each of next 2 ch. Pull remaining tail to inside of cap and fasten off. Stuff acorn lightly. Sew Cap to Bottom; weave in ends.
- Leaves:
- With size C hook: Make 3 in color E and 2 each in colors C and D
- With Size G hook: Make 3 in color C and 2 each in colors D and E
- Ch 14.
- Rnd 1: 2 sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 3 ch, hdc in next 7 ch, sc in next ch, 3 sc in last ch; continuing on opposite side of foundation chain, sc in next ch, hdc in next 7 ch, sc in next 3 ch, sc in same stitch as first 2 sc of rnd, join with sl st to first sc—28 sts.
- Rnd 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in first st, sl st in next 4 sts, ch 2, hdc in next 2 sts, ch 2, sl st in next 2 sts, ch 4, tr in next 2 sts, ch 4, sl st in next st, ch 3, dc in next st, ch 3, sl st in next st, ch 3, (2 dc, ch 3, sl st) in next st, sl st in next st, ch 3, dc in next st, tr in next st, ch 4, sl st in next 2 sts, ch 4, tr in next 2 sts, ch 4, sl st in next st, ch 3, dc in next st, hdc in next st, ch 2, sl st in next 3 sts, join with sl st to first sc. Fasten off. Weave in ends.
- GARLAND
- With size G hook and Color F, *ch 30, insert hook into stem of 1 acorn, the stem of 1 small leaf and the stem of 1 large leaf, yarn over and pull through acorn, leaves and loop on hook; repeat from * 6 more times, ch 30. Fasten off.

- SPECIAL STITCHES
- Magic Ring: Leaving a 6" tail, form a loop in the yarn and hold it in the non-dominant hand with the working yarn over the index finger. Insert the hook into the loop (ring) and draw the working yarn through the loop to create a loop on the hook. Chain the appropriate number of chains for the first st in the first round, then work all first-round stitches into the ring, working each stitch over the yarn that forms the ring and the yarn tail together. When the last st of the first round is complete, pull the yarn tail gently to close the ring.

- Large Pumpkin:
- With Color A, begin with a magic ring (see Special Stitches)
- Rnd 1: 6 sc in magic ring—6 sc. Do not join; place stitch marker in first st of rnd and move it up as you work the rnds.
- Rnd 2: 2 sc in each sc around—12 sc.
- Rnd 3: (Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc) around—18 sc.
- Rnd 4: (Sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around—24 sc.
- Rnd 5: (Sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around—30 sc.
- Rnd 6: (Sc in next 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around—36 sc.
- Rnd 7: (Sc in next 5 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around—42 sc.
- Rnd 8: (Sc in next 6 sc, 2 sc in next sc) around—48 sc.
- Rnds 9-15: Sc in each sc around.
- Rnd 16: (Sc in next 6 sc, sc2tog) around—42 sc.
- Rnd 17: (Sc in next 5 sc, sc2tog) around—36 sc.
- Rnd 18: (Sc in next 4 sc, sc2tog) around—30 sc.
- Rnd 19: (Sc in next 3 sc, sc2tog) around—24 sc.
- Rnd 20: (Sc in next 2 sc, sc2tog) around—18 sc.
- Stuff pumpkin with fiberfill until moderately firm.
- Rnd 21: (Sc in next sc, sc2tog) around—12 sc.
- Rnd 22: (Sc2tog) around—6 sc.
- Fasten off, leaving a 30" tail. Thread tapestry needle onto tail, *insert needle through magic ring on bottom of pumpkin and up through center of Rnd 22, pulling tightly to create a ridge; rep from * 5 more times, evenly spacing out ridges. Tie knot to secure. Weave in ends.
- Stem:
- With Color C, begin with a magic ring.
- Rnd 1: 6 sc in magic ring—6 sc. Do not join; place marker in first st of rnd and move it up as you work.
- Rnds 2- 5: Sc in each st around.
- Fasten off, leaving an 8" tail. With tail, sew stem to top of pumpkin. Weave in ends.
- Medium Pumpkin:
- With Color B, begin with a magic ring
- Rnds 1-7: Work as for Large Pumpkin—42 sc.
- Rnds 8-13: Sc in each sc around.
- Rnds 14-19: Work as for Rnds 17-22 of Large Pumpkin—6 sc.
- Create pumpkin ridges as for Large Pumpkin.
- Stem:
- With Color C, begin with a magic ring.
- Rnd 1: 5 sc in magic ring—5 sc.
- Rnds 2-4: Sc in each st around.
- Fasten off, leaving an 8" tail. With tail, sew stem to top of pumpkin. Weave in ends.
- Small Pumpkin:
- With Color A, begin with a magic ring.
- Rnds 1-6: Work as for Large Pumpkin—36 sc.
- Rnds 7-11: Sc in each st around.
- Rnds 12-16: Work as for Rnds 18-22 of Large Pumpkin.
- Create pumpkin ridges as for Large Pumpkin.
- Stem:
- With Color C, begin with a magic ring.
- Rnd 1: 5 sc in magic ring—5 sc.
- Rnds 2-3: Sc in each st around.
- Fasten off, leaving an 8" tail. With tail, sew stem to top of pumpkin. Weave in ends.

I downloaded this pattern and instructions from The JO-Ann website. I have crochet this for my Fall project, Beautiful work! Going to make several to give to good friends as well as make several for Fall Festival Craft..You can really enjoy this simple crochet pattern.
