Beginner Under 1 Hour

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Liquitex Basics Acrylic colors:
  • Parchment
  • Yellow Oxide
  • Light Pink
  • Prussian Blue
  • Bright Aqua
  • Liquitex Pouring Medium
  • Paper Mache Letter(s)
  • 5 Plastic Cups (for mixing)
  • Craft Sticks
  • Non-stick covering for work surface and/or grate (recommended)
  • Gloves (optional)

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Protect your work surface with paper or plastic (recommended) and assemble supplies & tools.
  2. Prepare paint. Add pouring medium & paint into 5 plastic cups with quantities below:
    • Cup 1: 4 TBSP Pouring Medium + 1 1/2 tsp Parchment
    • Cup 2: 4 TBSP Pouring Medium + 1 1/2 tsp Yellow Oxide
    • Cup 3: 4 TBSP Pouring Medium + 1 1/2 tsp Light Pink
    • Cup 4: 4 TBSP Pouring Medium + 1 1/2 tsp Prussian Blue Hue
    • Cup 5: 4 TBSP Pouring Medium + 1 1/2 tsp Bright Aqua Green
    • *Note: Quantities may need to be adjusted based on number of letter(s) being poured on.
  3. Mix each color using clean craft stick for each cup, until all the pouring medium is incorporated.
  4. Place letter(s) on a level work surface. Be sure to use a non-stick covering or a grate under the letter(s) so they will not get stuck after drying.
  5. Pour "puddles" of each color on to the letter(s) as desired; color can be overlapped. Keep about a 1/2" margin around the outside of the letter(s) to allow color to flow when tilted.
  6. Using a craft stick, drag a line through the colors to encourage subtle mixing.
  7. Put on gloves (optional). Once color distribution is achieved as desired and while paint is still wet, gently lift the letter and slowly tilt from side to side, allowing paint to flow close to, or completely off the letter as desired.
  8. At this point, additional drops of any color can be added to fill gaps or achieve a specific look. Drag a craft stick through and tilt again as needed.
  9. Allow 24-48 hours to dry.

JOANN HACKS:

  • Use a finger to tap on any spots where color is not flowing.
  • Sides of the letter(s) can be painted beforehand, or leftover drips of color can be "smudged" onto the sides to fill in, if desired.
