DIRECTIONS:

50" x 60" Quilt
  1. To print the patterns, click on the "Download Project PDF" button (above).
  2. Read all instructions, diagrams and templates before cutting and sewing.
  3. Download pattern and cut apart pieces. Add 1/2" seam allowance around each pattern piece.
  4. Use templates A, C, E, and H for the stars. From light blue fabric, cut 4 sets of each template. From the teal, navy, dark red, and red fabrics cut 5 sets of each template. From coral fabric cut 6 sets. Total of 30 sets.
  5. Use templates B, D, F, G and I for the background pieces. From each of the white, light gray and cream fabrics, cut 10 sets of the templates so you have a total of 30 sets. You can mix background colors.
  6. You will be using the Pojagi technique with this project.
  7. When sewing pieces together, pin the star piece 1/4" below the edge of the background piece. Sew with a 1/2" seam. Press seam towards the star fabric and turn the raw edge background fabric under 1/4" so it is wrapped around the seam. Stitch through all thicknesses close to the edge so raw edges are enclosed. Add your next piece and repeat process with each piece always folding towards the star fabric.
  8. To assemble block, stitch pieces in the following order, using Pojagi seams if desired and using template as a reference.
  9. Stitch A to B then AB to C. Set aside.
  10. Stitch D to E then DE to F. Set aside.
  11. Stitch G to H then GH to I.
  12. Stitch GHI to ABC. Stich DEF to ABCI to complete block.
  13. When all blocks are completed trim each to 11" square.
  14. Using a 1/2" seam, sew blocks together in rows arranged as desired. Press in one direction. Trim bottom seam to 1/4". Fold 1/2" raw edge over 1/4" seam and press. Stitch close to edge.
  15. Since all seams are enclosed, this method does not require batting. Even up sides and use a narrow binding to finish.

Craft Hack Tips and Tricks:

  • Add 1/4" seam allowance instead of 1/2" to construct this quilt traditionally.
